XBox Game Bar not opening when pressing the XBox button - Windows 10

Hi,

I used to be able to open the XBox Game Bar in Windows 10 by pressing the XBox button on my controller (XBox Elite series 2 connected via MS controller USB adapter). I don't use it that often so I don't know when it stopped working but now I can only open the app from the start menu, or using windows key + G. The option to open using a controller is ticked in settings but it doesn't do anything.

Windows is up to date.

Controller firmware is up to date.

Nvidia graphics drivers are up to date.

I've repaired the XBox Game bar app.

I've reset the XBox Game bar app.

Using a different XBox wireless controller has the same issue.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

The Windows 10 Game Bar can be used to do what you've asked here. The Beta App's main function is to download Game Pass games (which actually download via the Windows Store).

To open the Game Bar hold the Windows key and press G, or press the Xbox button on an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller.

Xbox Overlay is really the "Game Bar", and when you press Win+Alt+B it's a shortcut designated in Game Bar to begin broadcasting. So either you can press Windows+G and open the game bar and select Settings from there, and either change the shortcut for
broadcasting, or you can use the settings to link your account to a Mixer account to start broadcasting when you press the button.

Please try reinstalling the game bar

Right-click on the Start button and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) from the pop-up menu.

Copy and paste the following command in PowerShell and hit Enter to uninstall the Game Bar from your system.

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage

Now head over to Microsoft Store and search for Xbox Game Bar and see if you're able to install it now

Are you playing on Windows 10 or Xbox One?

If on Xbox One, I would recommend checking out the
Xbox Acessories app for if it's configured to open the guide when you hold the button down.

If on Windows 10, then I would recommend checking out the Game Bar settings in Settings > Gaming > Game Bar and see if you have a shortcut set to open that app.

Might also be an issue with the controller, where pressing the X button also inadvertently 'presses' the Guide button on the controller?
