Xbox Game Bar Gallery not displaying screenshots or recordings

Hello Windows users,

I've been having an issue for a while now with my Xbox Game Bar overlay and its Gallery window. I take screenshots and recordings commonly, but they never appear within the overlay window. Instead, I have to press the folder button and it redirects me to my captures folder. This is practical most of the time, but not when I'm using a full-screen application.

I've done some searching and tried the solution explained here, here, and here. They direct you to modify or create a key in Windows Registry Editor. In my case, the specified key wasn't even in there, so I created it from scratch. I was excited this might fix my issue, but alas, no similar configuration solved it. I tried using %USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures, as well as a readdressed Captures folder, as I set my user files to be stored on a secondary drive. I even tried different "String Value" and "Expandable String Value" types.

Is there any other keys that I need to modify/create? Any and all information is much appreciated!

Thanks for the response. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply in this thread, I only recently noticed your response. Nothing in that article helps me solve my issue. It doesn't have anything on fixing a broken Gallery widget. Any other ideas?

We understand that you are having trouble recording Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself. I'll be happy to assist you with this.

To record Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, you need to enable the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option in the Game Bar settings. Here are the steps to do so:

1. Press the Windows key + G to open the Game Bar.

2. Click on the Settings icon (gear icon) on the Game Bar.

3. In the Game Bar settings, make sure that the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option is turned on.

4. Also, make sure that the "Record audio when I record a game" option is turned on if you want to record audio along with your gameplay.

5. Once you have enabled these settings, you can start recording your gameplay by pressing the Windows key + Alt + R.

Please note that not all games support Game Bar overlay recording. If you are having trouble recording Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, it could be due to the game not supporting this feature. You can check the game's display settings to see if there are any options related to Game Bar overlay recording.

In the game bar when i check my recordings and screenshots it's not there so i want help to get my recordings and screenshots back.

While you're playing a game, press the Windows logo key + G to open Xbox Game Bar.
Choose Widget Menu > Capture.
Choose Start recording, Take screenshot, or Record last….
Record last… turns the most recent moments of play into a game clip when background recording is turned on. Set the duration in Windows Settings > Gaming > Captures.
Find your game clips and screenshots by opening Game Bar and selecting Widget Menu > Gallery.
To set your resolution and upmarket everything to 4K:
To capture game footage, make sure the Record in the background while I'm playing a game checkbox is selected in Game Bar settings (or turn it on in Windows Settings > Gaming > Captures).
For some PC games, Game Bar won't appear in full screen mode. To start and stop recordings without Game Bar, use the keyboard shortcut Windows logo key + Alt + R. The screen will flash to indicate the start and end of recording. If background recording is on, Windows logo key + Alt + G will record the last moments of play.
If the shortcuts don't work for a full-screen game, press the Windows logo key + G. The screen will flash twice to confirm that the game has been recognised. Then, re-open the game in full screen mode.
