XBox Game Bar Crashing and Refusing to Record

So I decided to record something like google chrome using my xbox game bar because OBS lags my computer way too much. I did Windows Key + G, opened up the recording widget, and pressed record. Nothing happened for like 5 seconds, then the game bar suddenly disappeared. When I accessed the game bar again, the recording widget was there, but the record button was grayed out and I press it and try to record again. It stays like that for a couple of minutes then reappears, but when I press it again, the exact same thing happens. This has never happened before, and I don't remember downloading anything that couldn't be trusted for the past year, so I'm guessing it's not anything malicious. But it could be.

I've tried running a troubleshooter, restarting the XBox Game Bar using the task manager, resetting the XBox Game Bar through "Apps and Applications" in Settings. Nothing works.

I'm guessing it's a computer problem rather than something with the application? I know that sometimes the Game Bar can be a little bit buggy (from past experience), but the recording software has not acted this weird before.

    :)

XBox Game Bar Crashing and Refusing to Record

    Hi,

Can't promise anything, but can you provide us with the system specs of your PC please?

    Thanks,

Can I extend the playback feature (Replay feature) of the Xbox Game Bar from 10 minutes to 1 hour?

I assume by the 'playback feature' you mean the record time? The Windows Game Bar maximum record time that can be set is 4hrs. This can be changed in Windows Settings > Gaming > Captures.

The Windows Game-Bar uses a video recording codec that requires the file to be finalised in order for it to be saved. This means that either if the recording is stopped via the Game Bar or the recording ends on its own once the maximum time is reached, the file should save. If for some reason there a fault or a system crash, the video recording won't save as it won't complete the 'finalising' process.

How to record Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself?

    Hello AdidasPK,

We appreciate you for sharing this with us and welcome to Xbox Forums.

We understand that you are having trouble recording Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself. I'll be happy to assist you with this.

To record Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, you need to enable the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option in the Game Bar settings. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Press the Windows key + G to open the Game Bar.

    2. Click on the Settings icon (gear icon) on the Game Bar.

    3. In the Game Bar settings, make sure that the "Record game clips, screenshots, and broadcast using Game bar" option is turned on.

    4. Also, make sure that the "Record audio when I record a game" option is turned on if you want to record audio along with your gameplay.

    5. Once you have enabled these settings, you can start recording your gameplay by pressing the Windows key + Alt + R.

Please note that not all games support Game Bar overlay recording. If you are having trouble recording Game Bar overlay while recording with Game Bar itself, it could be due to the game not supporting this feature. You can check the game's display settings to see if there are any options related to Game Bar overlay recording.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know.

    Kind regards,
