Yeah, even if they give host to a mediocre connection in the lobby, once in-game the bars should represent connection to the host, and of course host should always have a 4 bar connection to himself.

The only other option I can think of is if the bars represent connection to matchmaking servers, even in-game. I tried researchuing a while back just to figuire out how the whole connection infrustructure works, but came up pretty empty. I did read that
in-game we are connected simultaniously to xbox servers and to the host. So its very possible the bars could represent connection to xbox servers and not the host. If that is the case though, its easy to see why there are so many issues with matchmaking. You
could be matched with someone down the street, but still represented by a cross-country ping.

Xbox is connected to tv, I do have a sound bar that is only able to be connect led through the optical cord. But, I tested the tv and the sound bar no sound for blu rays and all games have sound but not disc based movies

@Chaos - Connection quality is not the only factor that determines your experience in the game. You having a 5-bar connection and getting killed by someone with a 1-bar connection DOES NOT EVEN COME CLOSE to proving that the 1-bar connection guy was cheating.

I find that it's not consistent at all,You just have to play and hope for the best.Some games its good,some its bad.The bars are'nt accurate,They only tell you anything if the connection is extremely bad,The difference between a 3 or a 4 bar connection can
work either way for you.I get a 4 bar almost always but my connection differs from game to game even with that constant 4 bar.

Does the sound bar have an optical connection? You could TRY connecting the Xbox to sound bar directly (pretty cheap cables on amazon) and see if that rectifies it...
