xbox frozen to home screen

ok this is a little hard to describe properly but ill try my best.

i turn on my xbox and it loads to the dashboard and thats it, loss of internet connection, doesnt detect external hard drive, and controller will not sync. i cant even try the whole USB diagnostic/update option.

has anyone encountered this and have a solution??? or is it just send it to be repaired??

Xbox home screen frozen

i can't navigate my Xbox home page!!! Xbox is basically dead. Xbox has been working fine then today just stopped, not good with Christmas 2 weeks away.

Recently installed a preview update and today randomly my Xbox won't load properly? Any ideas? It's driving me mad, Xbox support can't help. Help me community

Frozen Home Screen

I have run into the problem that my home screen is frozen when I turn my system on. I can see the tiles for recent games and what not but the sections on each side of the home panel just have a circle load symbol but which doesn't move. I can hold down the
home button and turn the power off but I cant move around the system at all other than that. If it helps to know as well the light on the kinect does not come on either. I just turned on my xbox the other day and this is what happened.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure it will work but it is worth a try. Perform a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug
the power cord back in and restart the console. Once it is back up and operational test the results. Let us know. Good Luck!!

found out what the problem was (would have posted it up sooner only i forgot i posted here at all)

i have a 2tb external hard drive for extra space and it turns out this hard drive caused the trouble (the hard drive has since been sent away for repairs)

how i discovered it was by plugging the hard drive into my brothers xbox and it started having the same trouble as mine, my own xbox has been working perfectly since i kept the hard drive disconnected,

thought id post this here incase others end up having the issue, just disconnect any external hard drives and see how the xbox responds (turn xbox off when disconnecting the drives)

and if anyone is interested it was a seagate hard drive that failed (the hard drive was only ever used for the xbox and was just over a year old)

What do you mean it opens at your home screen and then nothing? Are you stuck on the dashboard or is it a black or green screen?

If you are stuck on a black or green screen you can try the offline diagnostic tool that has helped people get passed the blank screen before:

Hard resets are pretty much the only advice people here know. Try another one?
