Xbox freezes when starting downloads of games, previous issues in the past

My Xbox has had issues the last few months when downloading games and DLCs. Back in July my Xbox started freezing when I tried to download Dragon Age 2 and The Witcher 2 onto my Xbox. This problems proceeded for the next couple weeks until I reformated my
hard drive, which allowed it to start downloading everything again. This happened once more about a month ago, so I reformated again and had to redownload everything on my console, save whatever I could fit onto an 18 gig portable hard drive (I have about
150+ gigs of games and DLC). I just started having issues with it again about a week ago, and I would really like to avoid reformating and redownloading everything once again just to have the issue possibly rise up again in the future. Now I have downloaded
things on other Xboxs, namely my brother's, and I had no issues there. My Xbox would freeze when starting the downloading, reset itself, and then try to download once my account logged in, repeating the process unless I cancel the download from my queue within
seconds of signing in. Once I cancel the download, I have no issues with my Xbox unless I try to download something once again, and it isn't specific to what it downloads, just anything not on my hard drive will cause it to crash. My Xbox is a few years old,
about 4 years old, and it has a 4 gig hard drive, but I use a 250 gig external hard drive.

Issues with downloading games

No it's starting to be anything I download is having problems even the new call of duty black ops 2 dlc that came out today won't play nor the previous dlc for the game. Videos download fine it's anything that is game related I'll download it then when I
go to play it it will just freeze or the fps will drop to such a low rate to where the game won't even start. And yes my account region and console locale are the same as my physical location.

Just having issues in general for me. Usually running 44 download wirelessly on the X1, been around 2 for the past few days -_- And ANY 360 game or app i launch freezes immediatly. Sucky

 

Your HDD most likely has physically damaged areas on the platters which the re-format marks as bad but more sectors progressively become corrupt because it's physical damage. The only thing you can do is buy a new HDD.
