Xbox Fitness Beachbody workouts, free to overpriced

We knew there would be changes to the content library of Xbox Fitness in January. I expected some workouts would disappear or become paid. I didn't expect prices to be this high. We are talking
20 to 30 dollar for a single workout. These prices are much higher than other paid workout programs we have in Xbox Fitness so far. I have no problem paying for content, I do have a problem paying unexplainable high prices. Microsoft/Beachbody,
please reconsider your recent prices. At the current level you won't get any sales.

What can we do?

If you agree 20 to 30 dollar for a single workout is too high, let the Xbox Fitness team and Beachbody know:

• Stay polite when expressing your dissatisfaction.
• If you want to buy Xbox Fitness content, non-Beacbody content seems fairly priced. The $59.99 P90X/Insanity for Xbox Fitness full programs are good too.
  

Below is me over-analyzing and writing a short novel. I get it if you don't read it, you'll get the gist from above. But I challenge those who set the pricing to explain how this makes sense. TL;DR: Single Beachbody workouts are way more expensive compared
to other paid content.

What happened?

Since 1/13/2015 the following workouts are no longer free:

• Beachbody 10-Minute Trainer Cardio - $19.99
• Beachbody 10-Minute Trainer Total Body - $19.99
• Beachbody P90X Plyometrics - $29.99
• Beachbody P90X Shoulders and Arms - $29.99
• Beachbody INSANITY Cardio Power and Resistance - $29.99
• Beachbody INSANITY Plyometric Cardio Circuit - $29.99
• Beachbody INSANITY Pure Cardio - $29.99
• Beachbody Rockin' Body: Rock It Out - $19.99
• Beachbody TurboFire Fire Starter - $19.99
• Beachbody HIIT 25 - $19.99
• Beachbody Brazil Butt Lift: High and Tight - $19.99

A whopping 30 dollar for a single workout seems excessively high, 20 dollar for a 10 minute workout doesn't seem normal either. Keep in mind these are all single workouts. You cannot buy the full program through Xbox Fitness either, so you never really get
the full benefit.

What about other workouts?

Most of the Jillian Michaels and Tracy Anderson DLCs had a single workout you could do for free. Those are now no longer free and now part of the paid DLC:

• Jillian Michaels: Kickbox FastFix: Workout 1 - $9.99 for 3 workouts
• Jillian Michaels: Ripped in 30: Week 1 - $9.99 for for 4 workouts
• Jillian Michaels: Extreme Shed & Shred: Workout 1 - $8.99 for 2 workouts
• Jillian Michaels: Hard Body: Workout 1 - $9.99 for 2 workouts
• Jillian Michaels: Killer Buns & Thighs: Level 1 - $11.99 for 3 workouts
• Jillian Michaels: Yoga Inferno: Workout 1 - $12.99 for 2 workouts
• Tracy Anderson: Metamorphosis Omnicentric: Transform 1 Day 1-10 - $29.99 for 4 workouts
  
• Tracy Anderson: Transform I: Muscular Structure I - $29.99 for 4 workouts
• Tracy Anderson: Transform II: Cardio - $29.99 for 4 workouts

Technically the price of these programs didn't change, but the free workout is now behind the paid DLC. These prices seem more fair.

• All 10 Minute Solution, Gatorade, Athlete Fit and MOSSA content remains free.
  
• New free 10 Minute Solution content has been added: KnockOut Body and Pilates for Beginners (10 workouts in total).
  
• None of the workouts have been removed.
• Other paid DLCs still remain at the same price.
  

Why are these workouts no longer free?

Since Xbox Fitness was announced late 2013 is was clear, workouts would only be free with Xbox Live Gold until the end of 2014. After 2014 some kind of Xbox Fitness subscription model would be introduced. Back in December

news surfaced that Xbox Fitness will stay free for Xbox Live Gold members in 2015 but "some of the content available will change in January". Clearly the subscription model was off the table.

It's important to understand content providers (like Beachbody) probably licensed their content for streaming to Microsoft, understanding they would get a revenue portion of the subscriptions in 2015. Because the subscription didn't happen Microsoft had to
renegotiate licensing deals and the content providers can demand any price they want. Either way, the free workouts were never supposed to be free forever. The problem isn't paid workouts, the problem is excessively high priced workouts.

Is Xbox Fitness doomed now?

No. Not yet in my eyes. Remember there is still great MOSSA, Athlete Fit, Gatorade and 10 Minute Solution content which remains free. This probably wouldn't have happened if they went with the subscription model, so I am happy there. But something will need
to change about the high-priced Beachbody workouts. I would buy some of the Beachbody content, but not at these prices. Adding some longer free workouts would help too.

Beachbody workouts are never cheap, are they? (some objective math)

You are correct, a full Insanity or P90X DVD set comes at quite a hefty price. But those DVD sets typically have over 10 workouts. Compared to their DVD equivalent these Beachbody workouts are priced between 172% to 501% of the DVD price. And the DVDs already
weren't cheap.

Other paid workouts in Xbox Fitness are way cheaper compared to their own DVD equivalent. Tai Chi is 56%, Zumba is 99%, Jillian Michaels is 72% to 104%, and Tracy Anderson is 81%. Even Beachbody's own P90X for Xbox Fitness comes down to 103%, and Insanity for
Xbox Fitness is even 83%.

All these percentages are the DLC price compared to the same price it would cost for the same amount of workouts on DVD shipped within the US.

• 10-Minute Trainer on DVD is $92.85 (with shipping) for 8 workouts (9 if you count the bonus). That's $11.60 per workout. Xbox Fitness is charging $19.99 per workout (172%)
  
• P90X on DVD is $139.80 (with shipping) for 12 workouts. That's $11.65 per workout. Xbox Fitness is charging $29.99 per workout (257%).
  
• Insanity on DVD is $144.80 (with shipping) for 10 workouts (11 if you count the fit test). That's $14.48 per workout. Xbox Fitness is charging $29.99 per workout (207%).
  
• Rockin' Body on DVD is $27.94 (with shipping) for 7 workouts. That's 3.99 per workout. Xbox Fitness is charging $19.99 per workout (501%)
  
• TurboFire on DVD is $134.80 (with shipping) for 12 workouts. That's 11.23 per workout. Xbox Fitness charges $19.99 per workout. (178%)
  
• Brazil Butt Lift on DVD is $52.85 (with shipping) for 6 workouts (7 if you count the bonus). That's $8.81 per workout. Xbox Fitness charges $19.99 per workout (227%).
  
• Bodywisdom Tai Chi for Beginners on DVD is $17.97 (with shipping) for the set (10 'workouts'). Xbox Fitness charges $9.99 for the set (56%).
  
• Zumba Exhilarate on DVD is $51.95 (with shipping) for 6 workouts. That's $8.66 per workout. Xbox Fitness charges $59.99 for 7 workouts. That's $8.57 per workout (99%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Kickbox FastFix is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (3 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $9.99 for the set (80%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Ripped in 30 on DVD is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (4 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $9.99 for the set (80%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Extreme Shed & Shred on DVD is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (2 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $8.99 for the set (72%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Hard Body on DVD is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (2 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $9.99 for the set (80%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Killer Abs on DVD is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (3 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $9.99 for the set (80%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Killer Buns & Thighs on DVD is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (3 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $11.99 for the set (92%).
  
• Jillian Michaels' Yoga Inferno on DVD is $12.49 (with shipping) for the set (2 workouts). Xbox Fitness charges $12.99 for the set (104%).
  
• Metamorphosis by Tracy Anderson (Omnicentric) is $110.69 (with shipping) for the set. Xbox fitness seems to have cut this up in 3 sets which totals to $89.97 (81%). I'm not entirely sure if this comparison is fair since Tracy's site is pretty vague
  about how much workouts are included.
  
• P90X on DVD is $11.65 per workout. P90X for Xbox Fitness is $59.99 for 5 workouts. That's $12.00 per workout (103%).
  
• Insanity on DVD is $14.48 per workout. Insanity for Xbox Fitness is $59.99 for 5 workouts. That's $12.00 per workout (83%)

What would be a fair price?

Like I said before, I understand these workouts cannot remain free. I do not have a problem paying for content, I have a problem paying unexplainable high prices. Looking at the other DLCs, the usual price is between 56% and 104% of the DVD equivalent. Let's
make 104% the high side at which I would consider paying:

• Beachbody 10-Minute Trainer Cardio - $11.99
  
  But with 25 free 10 Minute Solution workouts I honestly won't buy this at any price.
  
• Beachbody 10-Minute Trainer Total Body - $11.99
  
  Same as above.
• Beachbody P90X Plyometrics - $11.99
  
  But with the newer P90X for Xbox Fitness content it would make more sense to price this much lower. $7.99 max feels more right.
  
• Beachbody P90X Shoulders and Arms - $11.99
  
  Same as above.
• Beachbody INSANITY Cardio Power and Resistance - $14.99
  
  The newer Insanity for Xbox Fitness content is already at $12.00. $7.99 max for the old content feels more right.
  
• Beachbody INSANITY Plyometric Cardio Circuit - $14.99
  
  Same as above.
• Beachbody INSANITY Pure Cardio - $14.99
  
  Same as above.
• Beachbody Rockin' Body: Rock It Out - $3.99
  
  I would probably pay at a slightly higher price too, the DVD just happens to be relatively cheap.
  
• Beachbody TurboFire Fire Starter - $10.99
  
  Still seems a bit high, but for a theoretical maximum price it would do.
• Beachbody HIIT 25 - $10.99
  
  Same as above.
• Beachbody Brazil Butt Lift: High and Tight - $8.99
  
  Will personally not buy at any price, but that's because content doesn't appeal to me.

Xbox gold members

Certain workouts that were free for Gold users last year are now paid, see Xbox Fitness Beachbody workouts, free to overpriced,

Xbox Fitness is still free for Gold users in the sense that there is no fitness subscription fee as the original plan was. MOSSA, 10 Minute Solution, Gatorade and Athlete Fit is still available for free to Gold users. Other content can be bought a la carte.

 

Subscription Fee for Xbox Fitness?

Wait I just read that xbox fitness will require a subscription starting in 2015? What about workouts that you purchased such as P90X? The last thing I want to do is BUY P90X and then have xbox fitness monthly subscription be to much for what I am willing
to pay....

Also does anyone know will Xbox Fitness get a massive upgrade to the library? Or will it stay with the limited videos per workout group (IE 10 min workout by BeachBody has 2 videos...)

 

short novel appreciated ! Totally agree with BB workouts being overpriced- perhaps with poor takeup they will be discounted , agree with your "fair prices" above.I am very glad I already have most of the achievements/stamps from the p90x previously free
workouts already . For the 60 $ pylo and shoulderand arms would cost now , you may as well get the full set p90x dvds especially as second hand they might even be cheaper ( though you would miss on the Kinect feedback ) . Certainly makes the programs of p90x
/insanity for xbox look like good value , but i've already purchased these . I will enjoy the extra 10 minute kickboxing and pilates workouts added free however.

 

I very much appreciate the post. I actually never saw the information about the free content being temporary, but I am not blaming anyone for that... just made things awkward for me when my wife was asking why we had to buy something we had previously had
access to. We already own the BB workout DVDs, so there is no point in paying for them again (idea: some kind of license model that allows owners of BB content to gain access to Xbox Fitness equivalents would be liked.)

I absolutely agree that the prices are too high. Never mind that I already have the insanity and P90X content outside of XBox Fitness already. Even if I didn't, I wouldn't pay that price. I (and my wife) just enjoyed the "making a game out of it" concept
of the workouts on XBox Fitness.

Well... sad to say, but with 2015 comes blowing the dust off of some disks, and turning off the XBox to use them. I was hoping for for the rest of the series (P90X and Insanity)to be added, and access to them for a REASONABLE price.

The full program P90x and Insanity series are cool... and a little more reasonable in price... but after finding out purchasing full programs means only "access" to them... I am not buying anymore of them. If I pay money for it... I don't want to have to
deal with the connectivity bull that comes with streaming. Purchased content should be downloadable... slightly different topic though I guess... so I wills top there.

 

entirely off the topic - but Daleo , when you dust of your fitness beach body dvds - use the xbox one to play them - being able to gasp "Xbox Pause " to get a moment away from Tony's banter or Shaun Ts rants to grab your water and sweat rag is one of
my favorite functions of the Xbox One , once you've got your breath back "xbox play " gets you right back amongst "the kids /insane" - no reaching for remotes while dripping sweat -very cool.

Digital downloads always shock me with the prices.

I can't even seem to find anything related to so called, Xbox Fitness Pass subscription, would have expected to see an annual fee for example to unlock everything.

Beachbody seems to have dropped their prices a bit. The workouts which were $29.99 are now $19.99, and those which were
$19.99 are now $14.99.

As for how that compares to what you pay on DVD:

• TurboFire on DVD is $11.23 per workout. Xbox Fitness now charges $14.99 per workout. (178% ->

• Brazil Butt Lift on DVD is $8.81 per workout. Xbox Fitness now charges $14.99 per workout (227% ->

This is while other paid Xbox Fitness workouts charge between 72% and 104% of their DVD price. You be the judge on whether this is a justifiable amount of money to spend. Be aware the P90X for Xbox Fitness and Insanity for Xbox Fitness programs, each with
5 workouts for $59.99 are still a better deal and has much newer content.

Couple things: You cant point to an overprice workout for 1 of the many P90X workouts that you could get as apart of the whole group for $60 (might be over priced still).

Also to those who want to buy 1 license to both the DVDs and Xbox One you need to realize that these are "different" workouts and not the system set of workouts, it just uses the same name.

Finally not saying they are not overpriced but $60 for P90X lite or Insanity lite is actually not a horrible deal... What would be great is if BeachBody or Daily Burn would just move to a monthly subscription model on xbox where you got everything for a
flat fee.

Of P90X I consider Beachbody P90X Plyometrics ($19.99) and Beachbody P90X Shoulders and Arms ($19.99) to be overpriced. You can't get those as part of the P90X for Xbox Fitness bundle. P90X for Xbox Fitness has similar sounding workouts, but the are not
the same.

This is where things get confusing, you are correct in that the P90X for Xbox Fitness and Insanity for Xbox Fitness bundles are not the same as on DVD. But the other P90X and Insanity workouts which you can purchase as a single workout are the same as on
the DVD. Although obviously, the DVD set comes with a lot more workouts.

AMAZING work on that Sheet! Just spent 30 minutes on making one on my own, time wasted it seems.

 

Question: I missed out on the free workouts, had I accessed them while they were free would I have them still as free or do we all have to pay for them now?
