  1. Xbox Family sharing confusion

    Good Afternoon,

I have been trying (and failing) to grasp the set up for Family sharing on Xbox. I have 2 sons and myself who play. We have 2 xboxes. Me, and my younger son share My xbox (we have separate MS accounts/profiles), and my eldest has his own xbox. I currently
pay for 2 GamePass ultimates, but my understanding was that as a family group, we would only need 1. My eldest wanted to play a game that I own today, which again I thought was part of the appeal f having a family group. But we have struggled to get this working
in a way I am comfortable with. IE, I have had to sign into my account (and leave it signed in) to allow him to play the game on his xbox.

    All the forums and guides around this topic have not been very clear so if someone here could explain the following as simply as possible, that would be greatly appreciated;

    a) Can ultimate be shared among family members across different consoles? (2 profiles on my main machine, and 1 on the other)

    b) How do I set up the 2 xboxes to allow this?

    c) Can games be shared without having to have my account signed in to one machine (and thus my account and security settings exposed)

    d) Does having my account signed into one machine then prevent it being used on another?

    :)

You can share via the Home setting. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/my-home-xbox Setting a console as your
Home allows any profiles using that console to access uour Gold/games. However, you can only have 1 console set as your Home at a time. In order to share on 2 consoles, 1 account would need to purchase Ultimate and set 1 console as their Home. That account
can then use then sign in and use the non-Home console and still access the subscription because it is tied to their account.

The account that purchased the aubscription does not need to be signed in on the Home console in order to share. Once the console is set as their Home, the account doesn't even need to be on the console.

You can sign into 2 consoles at the same time woth the same account, but you cannot play a game on both at the same time.

"My librabry" in Microsoft store of the account in Family sharing do not include the game was purchased?

I think you are confusing two different features @op there is rostoms suggestion for xbox for px and there is steam family share if you are talking about steam then you have to contact steam support for it

That method is closer to what you want

    Question about game sharing

    Hey Colossus1500,

Sorry for the confusion about this. I am guessing you bought the digital version of the game? What you can do is share the game with family members that are added to your account in the first console as long as your signed in that console. You can sign on
the second console and load the game there and play as well.

Unfortunately the limitation is that the game DRM is tied to your account and not your family members that share the console. Just like when you own the disc you cant play it, take it out , insert it into a different console and expect to play on both. Since
you cant sign in on 2 Xbox One consoles at the same time you cant share play the game on one and share it on an other even though he is your family member that is tied to your account.

The summary is in order to play on 2 consoles the same game you will need to have 2 versions of the game owned by each person.

I hope that I explained it well enough but reach back if you are further confused by my ramblings.
