Hello I've got an xbox 360 Slim, with a 250-gb hard drive. I keep getting an update error, and I've tried any and all ways to update it (through USB/CD, cleaing the cache and updates on the system, etc.) I don't need to be told to power cycle the system,
and unplug everything and replug everything, or doing the "LB-RB-X-LB-RB-X" trick, or clearing the cache, etc. because I've done that multiple times, trust me I'm very thorough. Any suggestion to do these things are pointless since I obviously attempt the
easiest solutions first and have often repeated them.

Here's the error code I'm getting:

    3F4A - 4174 - 1600 - 267F - C000 - 0185

I've deduced the problem to a few possibilities, but have also ruled out the following:

    its NOT my internet connection

its NOT to do with the EXTERNAL hard drive (the 250GB one that you can remove)

I've noticed while tinkering around with the dang thing (haven't even really gotten to play it) that the INTERNAL memory of the xbox (the flash memory that I'm guessing is attached to the motherboard) is most probably corrupted. It has a handful of items
on the memory, most of which are corrupted, and can't be deleted. If you try formatting and clearing the system cache, nothing. If you go to them and delete the files manually, they seem to delete but on a restart of the system they're there again.

So what I've found: I'm guessing when attempting to update the system, it wants to put the update onto the flash memory instead of my 250GB hard drive or any other USB flash drive I put into the xbox. Because of that, the update obviously won't load because
the hard drive is completely incapable of reading, writing or even deleting anything.

So my question: Is there a way to bypass the internal memory? and update it onto the 250GB harddrive, which is PLENTY for me since I'm only into a few xbox games anyways. I thought there might be something possible after watching this video:

The only difference between our problems is his internal hard drive says "unformatted" while mine says "1.2GB free" and looks like its about half-used. also, he's using the 4GB xbox 360, I'm using the one with the 250GB hard drive included. Finally, his
way of fixing the xbox worked, whereas obviously it didn't work for me. I wish I could do what this guy did: but its not that easy for me

  2. 11/25 update failing to download

My xbox is trying to download a 333 megabyte update but keeps failing. I have tried both wireless and wired but still got the same results. I went through all the troubleshooting and it said my xbox was broken but it still works it just won't allow me to
go online because of the broken update.

If you've tried everything on the page then perhaps the console is in need of a repair. You could try contacting phone support 1-800-469-9269 in North America or click the link to arrange a call back. support.xbox.com/contact-us
    to see what they suggest.

update failed, I have tried all the steps in previous posts

I tried the usb flash drive and a cd/dvd both have the same error( ending in -8007-0070), when i power on the xbox it seems like it is going to internet not the disc or the flash drive. I formatted the flash drive on my pc FAT32 for first update figured
it would work for second, but no, so when i format it on my Xbox it fills the drive over 14 Gb of info and i only have a 150 mb to use,so no room for update, do i have to have it formatted on my xbox? I did the update before when i first signed up for my xbox
live account 2 weeks ago. It worked fine until the other day. The update files are the same it does seem when i downloaded the update file it went from 153 files to 150 for some reason.

My modem is hooked to the Xbox with an ethernet cable. Xbox live was working fine until this update error.

I should have stuck to pc games. lol

    Hey there Unseemly,

Sorry to hear you've been having issues downloading the update.

It sounds like you've done a good bit of troubleshooting already. Just to double check, have you tried all of the steps in our

    8007-0070 error code
article? Some of them are listed here as being tried but there are a few that have not.

If you've already tried everything in that article and still get the same error, you will want to use the links at the bottom of that troubleshooter to set up a repair for your console.

Please let us know how everything goes.
