Xbox External HDD has right specs but not compatible for storage?!

I recently got a WD 2TB My Book external HDD to use for the external storage of games/saves. It is USB 3.0 and 2TB (MS says it must have at least 256MB and 3.0)

Anyway, I go to plug it in and it will ONLY accept it as media storage! EVERY review I've found on it says it works perfectly. They just plugged it in, the Xbox formatted it and it worked. FOR THE SAME PRODUCT!!!

Why won't mine work? Am I doing something wrong? Here is a link to the product http://www.amazon.com/Book-USB-Hard-Drive-Backup/dp/B00E3RH5W2/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

    :)

    Xbox One External HDD

The only requirements that Microsoft have specified for an external HDD are that it's USB 3.0 compatible and has a capacity of 256GB or more.

  3. External Drive is Brilliant!

Can anybody recommend a good external HDD for my 360? I picked up a 2GB Seagate, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with it :'(

If you have a PC/Laptop format using that, If that doesn't work remove HDD from console press console button for 8 seconds power back up plug HDD back in.

You can also try a different usb3 cable and try the other usb ports.

I kinda had the same issue with my seagate 4tb hd yesterday. When I plugged it in to the console it would be detected as a 'media drive'. You have to tell it to format the drive for 'games and apps'.

I found this post by MISTER STALLONE which was a big help

I had the same issue, and just found how to resolve it. I tried all the resets and different ports etc, but it was still showing media only. For you tech guys out there(which I am not), I'm using a Western Digital My Passport 1TB External HD.

Go to Settings>Manage Storage. The device should be listed next to your internal hard drive, showing like a music note icon. If you hit the "Start/3Line" button all you'll get is a 'help' and 'switch profile' option. HIT THE "A" button instead, and I had
an option plain and simple to "Format for Games & Apps". Only took about 3 seconds to finish.

SOLVED. I had to plug the console directly into an outlet, not a strip or surge
