xbox external hardrive issues

I purchases a 3.0usb 1tb hard drive to store games on. when i plug it into my xbox instead of giving me the format options it automatically sends me to media player. what do i need to do to store games onto this device?

The hard drive has either gone corrupt or defective.

You will need to plug it into a Windows PC and reformat (as NTFS). This will erase the drive, so you'll have to install/download your games again.

If the hard drive is not being detected at all by your PC, it may have gone bad. One way to especially tell if a hard drive has gone defective is to put it up against your ear and listen for repetitive patterns of clicking noises.

Format it to ntfs on the computer.then plug it in

what i did to fix it was got an external hardrive put all of my staff on my xbox harddrive and put it on the external

and i formatted the xbox hardrive

then i run the update and it worked

Yes you can ive got an xbox one x with two 2tb external hardrives running constantly with no issues.

Currently it would be hard to find an Xbox One with a hardrive with more than 500GB, that being said you should invest in either an external hardrive or a new hardrive with at least a 1TB.
