Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Issues (works wired but not over bluetooth)

Looks to be a common issue according to Reddit.

Whenever I unplug my controller it stops working.

The first step to even get it to recognize the device after being unplugged is to go into bluetooth devices, find the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller, select "remove device", then enter pairing mode on the controller, "add a bluetooth or other device" then select the top option to pair a bluetooth device. Any time I plug my controller in and then unplug it I have to go through these steps first to get it to function at all.

THEN it is still unusable.

IF Xbox bar is ON and "Open Xbox Game Bar using this button on a controller: (Xbox button)" is CHECKED: Both "A" and "(Xbox button)" will open the game bar overlay while in a game.

IF Xbox bar is ON and "Open Xbox Game Bar using this button on a controller: (Xbox button)" is NOT - CHECKED: The overlay will no longer open with either button, but the "A" button will often take a screenshot through Steam (even if the screenshot shorcut button in steam is set to "none". It also causes my entire system to stutter.

Exactly what i am experiencing! Returned the first Controller aswell.

How is something like this possible and how did MS haven`t fixed it yet?? That's embarrassing!! Will never buy such garbage again.

The latest firmware update of the classic Xbox one controller broke it as well when used connected with Bluetooth

I had to downgrade it to make it working properly again

It’s not ideal but I’ve ordered one of the wireless adapters for $25 and I’m hoping it’ll allow the controller to work reliably over wireless similar to the 360 controller that this one is replacing. I’ll let you know if it works well, just to give you an alternative to returning the controller.

I was able to use the controller over Bluetooth with my iOS device so it suggests to me either a driver or hardware-related issue. Other Bluetooth devices are working fine so I’m assuming the former. 🤷🏼‍♂️
