Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller not recognized in Windows 10 Game Controllers panel

I just bought an Xbox Elite Series 2 Controller, trying to connect it wirelessly to my Windows 10 computer for use with PC games.

I'm able to pair it to the PC, both via Bluetooth and Xbox USB Dongle so that it is recognized in the Xbox Accessories app (and does work with some games such as Forza 4). But it is not recognized in the Windows "Game Controllers" panel (found via Windows key, type "Set up USB game controllers") when connected wirelessly (preventing it from working with some games such as Battlefield 3).

The controller is recognized in the "Game Controllers" panel only when connected via USB cable (and works with Battlefield 3), but the reason I bought it was to use it wirelessly (I already had a wired Xbox 360 controller).

I've tried uninstalling/removing/reinstalling the controller drivers etc, but no luck.

Any ideas are appreciated!

The original XBox Elite controller requires the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 so without that adapter it will not be recognized properly by Windows. The newer, Elite Series 2 can connect to a Windows 10 PC without the need of an adapter.

I believe this is because the controller has a firmware superior to the one compatible with the PC, it has to wait for Microsoft to fix it and it doesn't seem that they are worried about it. Another alternative is to downgrade the controller's firmware, but you need to have a console for that.

the elite controller series 2 has Bluetooth compatibility and is therefore compatible with windows 10 too. the first release of the elite controller was before xbox was integrated into windows 10, therefore there was no need at the time for Bluetooth.

My Xbox elite controller just stopped working yesterday on a recently purchased laptop but already had the anniversary update on it so I can't roll back to the previous version of Windows 10.

I've noticed now that in the device and printer section of the Control Panel I've got a Xbox 360 controller for Windows entry which isn't present on another version of Windows 10 install on my desktop PC so this laptop now has two entries the elite controller
and the Xbox 360 controller in Control Panel.If I disabled the Xbox 360 controller entry I get functionality on the elite controller but on a restart Windows the 360 controller reappears in Control Panel and in device manager.

Strange thing that for a week since I've had this new laptop everything was working fine in, now steam doesn't recognise the elite controller and windows hasn't done an update so how's this happened?

Sorry to hear you are unsatisfied with the current Xbox controllers, however, the question forum is the incorrect place to post your feedback. Unless you are asking about current Xbox controller advancements in-which case that would be the Xbox Elite Controller
Series 1 and Xbox Elite Controller Series 2. The Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 being the newest on the market and being awarded,
