Xbox Elite controller will not connect to computer anymore - USB does not recognize

For about a year I have had no issue with hooking up my Elite controller to my computer. Now tonight, it won't connect and I get a message about the USB does not recognize.

- Was able to get an old Xbox controller and hook it up to my computer with the same cable and no issue. So I know the cable and USB port is fine.

- Was able to hook up the controller to Xbox and it worked fine. I went and checked to see if there was an update and there wasn't.

- My computer and Xbox are in the same room. I've never had an issue when I had the controller hooked up to my computer and my Xbox would turn. Tonight was the first time. So I went and unplugged my Xbox so my controller would not link with it, and that still did not resolve my issue.

- I've restarted my computer, took out the battery of the controller, and cannot find the controller under Device Manager.

Did you try connecting the controller with the same cable to your Xbox?

We can try one of these 3 options in order:

1. Try uninstalling the most recent windows update, just in case it is the one that is causing conflicts

2. If you're on Windows 11, downgrade to 10 and try again. Or do the opposite case if you're able to upgrade to 11.

3. Perform a clean boot keeping games and files on your actual Windows version, in that way you're going to have a clean installation of windows system.

Yes, I was. But I also can connect that controller to the Xbox without the cable as well. Thanks for your help.

When i connect it by USB the computer doesn't even acknowledge It, Ive tried other data transfer USB plugs, they dont work. I know the controller can be recognized by the computer because when I use Bluetooth I can connect, and its the accessories app, it shows my Elite 2 controller.

The Elite V1 does not support bluetooth. It can only connect to a computer using an Xbox Wireless USB Adapter stick, and that's what the sync button on the controller is for. You can however still use the controller via USB cable.
