  1. Xbox Elite Controller grips peeling

Got an Xbox Elite console last Christmas (2015) and was very happy with it until now. The controller grip gray part has started peeling on the left hand side.

I contacted Xbox customer support and was told that the warranty was only good for 90 days and has expired - so I could either fix it or buy a new one for $150-160.

I think this is crap. There is nothing else wrong other than the rubber grip and I would consider that a manufacturing defect. Why would I want to spend that kind of money to replace a controller for only a grip issue and run the chance of the new controller
doing the same thing in about 8 months.

Looking around on the internet, I see this seems to be a known issue with these. Microsoft needs to step up, make this right, and issue a recall or something.

    Not happy

    :)

If you go to a thing called a "Hardware Store" they sell this stuff called "Glue" there are many different brands of this "Glue" some better than others at sticking various materials together. I would suggest "Krazy Glue" or if you are in the UK "Super Glue".

You should also get parental supervision when using either of these products as they stick flesh together extremely well.

  5. I am guessing that you don't have an Elite controller and yes, I thought about trying to glue it back together, but I don't want to mess it up worse than it is. Also the point is, I should NOT have to do that. You would think that a controller that is
sold for $150 would have more than a 90 day warranty and be built a bit better than it is.

If I do try to glue it back together, I'll make sure to ask my 70yr old dad to supervise.

  7. I,m having the sane issue. Having kids I have tried this magic solution "Glue" to attempt repairs in the past. Two concerns I have:

The glue melting the rubber as it has done to the rubber pad on the thumb stick on previous repair attempts on other controllers.

The glue getting into a part of the controller that really matters.

One other thing to keep in mind is that if we had any chance of Microsoft resolving the issue once you apply said glue all hope for a resolution from Microsoft is gone.

So don't take the candy from the troll.

just do what they always say, send in for repairs so they can get more money for the defective products they knew about.

  9. Found this while reading into the warranty....

"What is the warranty period for Xbox consoles and accessories, and what does the warranty cover?

To read the details of the warranty period and coverage for your Xbox console, Kinect sensor, or bundled or refurbished devices, see the warranty and software license for your product below.

Note: The warranty and software license for your Xbox console also includes accessories such as controllers."

Spoke to someone about this further and the controller has been sent in under the console warranty. Now waiting to see what happens next.

Best of luck. I have the same peeling problem with my left hand grip, and I haven't even had the controller for a full year.

Xbox said that this controller was built to last. This problem shows otherwise.

  11. So several months ago, I managed to send the original controller in under the console's warranty and got a replacement. All was good until today....

New controller started peeling on the left side - so much for hoping Microsoft solved the problem with the replacement.

For those that suggest krazy or super glue - how do you get the rubber piece to lay back flat in the place?

  12. So attempted to glue it back together with Gorilla Super Glue - well can't get the grips to lay perfectly were they were, the super glue doesn't seem to melt the rubber, but I just had to take the thing apart again to reglue.

Don't think this is going to be a permanent fix. I still think the rubber expands or stretches after about 6/7 months which causes this. Still pissed off about this!!

Microsoft if you ever read this - update the damn Elite Controller and address the problems this version has. Maybe call it the Elite Controller II or something - keep the detachable bits, but fix these issues!!

This has happened to mine also, it's obviously a design issue and it's a shame they've not been retrofitted or anything; personally I'd prefer an updated design where you can customise the grips, choosing between the rubberised grips, the "diamond" grips
features on the newer pads, or he smoother matte finish of the older controllers.

I love my elite controller. I'm on my 3rd, thank God for the best buy extended repair service.

First 2 it was a bumper issue, now I have the same rubber peeling.

I tried using super glue, but the rubber not only seems peeled, but stretched. It seems too large now. Anyway, eBay and Amazon have replacement grip panels from $20-35. I have the controller tool kit (got from eBay) that has the torx drivers and the plastic
    remover for the panels.

Getting new panels is an easy fix. You can get all caught up on the "I shouldn't have to do this" thing, but I'd rather just replace the panels. I've had this 3rd controller for over a year and I put 30-40 hrs a week on it, so $20 for panels after a year
    is fine for me.

The thing I advise, if you choose to do the same, is GET THE PANEL REMOVING TOOL. Removing the panels is easy with it, but without it, you could seriously mess up the appearance of your controller.
