It could also be a static build up and discharge. Make sure all the rubber feet are on the bottom.

Controllers usually only get 90 day warranties, so I doubt you would be able to get a free exchange. Looks like you'll need a new one. It is rather curious that this is happening to you. There could be a number of issues present, could be a power issue
with your PC, or an unusual amount of static build up in the room you have your computer and console located.

Practically anything with a printed circuit board can be disrupted or damaged by a static discharge. It maybe an idea to try to find the route cause of your problem and fix it rather than keep buying things that will eventually break because of static discharge.

Sorry but no, it's not "static electricity". My husband works with, trouble shoots, and fixes electronic components for a living and is well educated in these types of eletronic components. It is entirely possible that this particular cotroller is not
interally grounded properly. It also has difficulty in charging as well, which further indicates an issue in the electrical supply conversion mechanism within the controller. So, yes it is entirely possible that it discharged while shutting down and gave
off enough of a discharge to be felt.

I actually did resolve this issue myself. My controller had static buildup in the 3.5mm port and the issue was fixed by simply plugging in headphones to the port. I heard the electric discharge when I plugged it in which is how I know there was a static buildup.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with my controller in particular in some way and I need to get a replacement. I'm waiting a bit longer to see if it happens again before requesting a replacement.

If you have not already done so can you please try and carry out a firmware update on the controller to see if that helps with your problem?
