Xbox Elite 2 on PC - Configuration Issue / Bluetooth Issue / Game Bar Overlay A button Issue.

I have an Xbox Elite 2 PC controller that is unable to be used via Bluetooth. When first connected by Bluetooth the controller is unusable due to the A button opening the game bar overlay,

This can be resolved by downloading the Xbox accessories application and mapping a new default profile to the controller, The issue with this though is that the device must be configured via USB cable, If you do this then it breaks the ability of the device to pair via Bluetooth via memory (something even a 5 dollar speaker can do). Once this connection is broken the only way to get Bluetooth to work again is to forget the device which then removes the mapped profile from the controller and this leaves you with the issue first described. That when first connected by Bluetooth the controller is unusable due to the A button opening the game bar overlay,

This leaves you with essentially a $179.99 brick that is unable to be used on a PC via Bluetooth. several online solutions list buying a wifi dongle ($24.99) as the answer but that is also not a true fix as the signal strength requires the dongle to have a direct line of sight and for the dongle to stay within 3 feet of the controller for the connection to work. the dongle even came with a poor quality USB extension cable so they know this is an issue.

In reality, this is a critical error with this device, and I'm requesting support to address the issue with a fix that will let the device either be configured via Bluetooth or to fix the issue with USB connection perm breaking the ability of the device to pair via Bluetooth without resetting the connection.

In your post you mentioned a "wifi dongle" are you referring to the Xbox Wireless Adapter here: Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 | Xbox? There are two that exist, and we wanted to verify that you've purchased the newer model which is the one in the link above.

For clarity, the Xbox Wireless Adapter does not require a direct line of sight to the controller, nor is it limited to a three-foot range for connection.

Have you tried updating the Elite controller through the Xbox Accessories app for PC?

- Verify that Windows is up to date by checking for updates in your Settings

- Verify that the Xbox Accessories app is updated in the Microsoft Store App

Open the Microsoft Store app
Navigate to Library
Navigate to the Xbox Accessories app and select Update if there's one available.

- Disconnect the Elite controller from Bluetooth

- Open the Xbox Accessories app

- Connect the Elite controller to your PC using the USB-C cable

Once the controller is connected, you should be prompted with a mandatory update for your controller. If not then it is possible that your controller may be completely up to date however, there have been reported issues with updating the controller via PC that are currently being investigated.

Alternatively, you can try updating your Elite controller via console as a way to circumvent the inability to update the controller on PC. Updating on console should start automatically once the controller is connected. If you are able to and have decided to go this route, it is possible that you may not be able to use your Elite controller with the Xbox Accessoires App on PC due to an incompatibility until the issues are resolved.

If you run into this issue, you can revert your controller's firmware on the console by following the steps below:

Power on and sign into your console

Navigate to My Games and Apps
Navigate to your Apps section and select the Xbox Assist app
Once in the Xbox Assist app, head over to the Articles section, then select Console & Accessories
Once under Console & Accessories you should see "My controller has connection issues after the last update"
Select the Check controller firmware button below and the Xbox Accessories app should automatically open up
Once in the Xbox Accessories app, select Revert Firmware

Lastly, if you haven't already, you can disable the ability to launch the Xbox Game Bar by pressing the Xbox button as a temporary workaround until the issue is resolved.

- Open the Xbox Game Bar (Win + G)

- Open the Settings (the Gear icon)

- Select Shortcuts

- Uncheck the box next to Open the Xbox Game Bar using (Xbox button) on a controller

I also am experiencing this issue after purchasing the Halo Elite Series 2 controller, unable to use it in bluetooth as the A button toggles the xbox game bar and there isn't a prompt to update the firmware on xbox accessories app.

Thank you for your reply. I tried but didn't work, I don't think is an issue with the game bar but with the controller firmware itself. Using a normal xbox controller I have no issues with the game bar, just with the elite controller while on Bluetooth

My elite 2 when connected to PC via bluetooth loses connection and I am also experiencing sudden frame rate drops which I do not see when playing it with wired or keyboard or mouse. I did not had any issues with Elite 1 which connected via a usb
dongle. I updated the controller and the bluetooth feature is broken. Anyone got it to work on PC via bluetooth without any issues?

exactly the same issue here, have no problem with using my xbox one s controller on PC, but lots of disconnections and frame rate drops with elite 2

Would someone be able to assist me with my current issue?

I recently bought the series elite 2 controller and I cant seem to connect the controller directly to my pc with the cable to configure the buttons. I am able to connect it via Bluetooth. I have windows 11 and it has been updated to the latest software and I just downloaded the xbox accessories app. When the app is opened it fails to recognize my controller.
