    Xbox E humming/vibrating while reading game disc


    Just purchased a new Xbox E system (4 GB) with no Kinect.

    The system hums fairly loudly when it's reading a disk I'm playing. My previous Xbox was the original white one (finally got the RROD) and it wasn’t nearly this loud.

    I am just wondering if this is normal for this version of the Xbox, or simply because it is new, or if I should try and exchanging it for.

    Any input is appreciated.

    System Problem ?

    For a while now, my Xbox hums. It makes a constant humming sound for most newer games. some games that have been installed. So maybe when only the system reads or is reading the disc it is humming, is this normal?

    Thank you. That is what my son has been telling me. I may just install the game on the console. I know that preinstalled games do not make that much noise.

    Can you check the hard drive vent on the right hand side of the console near the back? I have a 360S and was getting a loud humming noise on mine until I removed the vent cover. Turns out it was just vibrating. Perhaps the issue may be the same with you.

    It's definitely the disc. There's a constant vibration hum whenever there's a disc in. DVD or game it's the same. Some discs are quite quiet you can't really hear them unless you're up close but if you touch the console you can still feel a light vibration.
    Some discs are obviously a little off balance, the sound is constantly audible across the living room and the vibration is stronger when you touch the console.

    With no disc in the sound and the vibration stops completely.

    Humming and thumping sounds that happen only on one disc, usually are a sign of a warped or uneven disc.

    Either the DVD was poorly manufactured from the factory to be uneven from the beginning, or because of wrong handling (e.g. pulling the disc off the holder in the cover instead of pushing the holder down and letting the disc pop out by itself) the disc is
    slightly warped.

    When you put an uneven or warped disc in the drive, the disc will start to vibrate causing the humming or thumping sound when spun at higher speeds during playback.

    There is nothing wrong with your console, if only that disc is causing the noise.

    The hum is dvd disc drive spinning.... and it's pretty loud, but normal. Installed games would take care of the problem.

    Probably just a little shaky on your stand, I personally install all the games I have and play on a regular basis just to prolong the life of my console.
