    Xbox doesn't read games, but reads DVDs.


    I recently replaced the laser in my xbox 360. I was playing a game fine for 30 minutes and then it dropped out. Now my xbox doesn't read games, but reads DVDs fine. I either get 'play game' then an error comes up or 'unrecognised disk' when I insert a game.

    If anyone can offer some help it'd be really appreciated!

    Note: I have cleared cache. I have removed the antistatic too.

    disc unrecognizable

    Got a brand new Xbox 360 and it won't read any game discs or dvds. Tried troubleshooting steps but it still doesn't want to read the discs. What now?

    Reads DVD but not games?

    UPDATE: I rolled back the Xbox system update using (LB RB X 2x) in storage and it will play my disk now occasionally it will say unreadable disk but will now play disk. Now I can't play Xbox live due to me not re updating my system. Wtf Microsoft?

    Not only is self repair against the TOS but the discussion of self repair is not allowed on the forums. No one here can help you.

    your ONLY option is to buy a new 360 as MS will not even touch a console that has been worked on by anybody other than them sorry.

    My Xbox 360 elite won't play my call of duty ghosts game it just says that its a unrecognized disc but my 360 arcade console plays it fine. I've cleared the cache down on the elite but this makes no difference. All my other games play fine its just this

    Hi,

    It's not the discs it's your console. If your console can not read DVD movies then it won't read Xbox 360 games either. DVD movie discs use the same type of discs that 360 games use (DVD-9).

    The Xbox One has two lasers to read discs. One for Blu-rays - which Xbox One discs games are made of - and one for reading DVD's and Xbox 360 games.

    Hi,

    It could be that your Xbox One Blu-ray drive has a hardware fault, specifically with the diode it uses to read DVD discs. To test this, try playing a DVD movie in your console. The disc you test must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

    If the DVD doesn't read, but Xbox One and Blu-ray discs read fine then your console has a hardware fault and can no longer read Xbox 360 and DVD discs. There isn't a user fix for this, they only option is get your console repaired. Sorry.

    You have to use ORIGINAL DVD (movies concert dvd series etc) It doesn't read amatorial dvd
