xBox does not see Windows Media Centre Library items

I am attempting to view videos and photos on my xBox 360 using Windows Media Centre.

I have setup Windows Media Centre (Version 6.1.7601.17514) on Windows 7 Ultimate.

I have setup the xBox 360 as an extender. The connection process went through with no problems.

I have added custom folders to the Media Library which reside on a NAS drive on my network.

Everything on the Media Centre PC works fine. i.e. I can view the videos and photos from the Library fine.

However, on my xBox, when I go to view the Media Library, it states that there are no items in the library and that Media Centre is busy searching for items to add.

What I find strange, is that on the Menu where you see a box with little thumbnails on it, e.g. Pictures or Video, I can see the correct content is visible. But when you go into it, there are no files in the Library.

I am hoping someone may suggest what it is I have missed in setting this up correctly.

    :)

Is it possible to get AVI files to play via Windows Media Centre through my 360??

It is only possible if you are running Windows 7. Media Centre in XP Media Centre Edition and Vista will not Stream .avi files.

You can just stream .avi files though the 360's Video Library and Windows Media Player, or a third party program like PS3 Media Server.

Since I'm idle I'll point you toward Lew's blog where he explains all you need to know about the 360's media capabilities far better than I could

  3. seting up my xbox on my pc

Thanks but I all ready hooked up my media centre its getting my pc to recognize my xbox so that I dont need media centre or any such program to listen to music. I want to be able to select my computer from the music library and chose music that way, so I
can play games and listen to music at the sametime which media centre does not allow. It seems possible but so far I have not figured it out.

You may not be looking in the right photo library if you can see thumbnails of your photos but when you go to the media library there is nothing.

Search Mode for Xbox to find CPU?

The options should be similar In Vista and 7, Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre, and it should have a collection of options to do with file sharing and what not, look for something along the lines of windows media sharing or media streaming,
and again add the media to your windows libraries and/or windows media player 11

    Windows Media Centre

    Hi

Sadly not. Windows Media Centre was retired after Windows 8 and is no longer available for Windows.

You would need to use a Windows 8 install that has the Media Centre option.
