My XBox One S started having disk drive issues.

When booting the XBox One S up regularly, I start the Blu-Ray app and get an error message stating:

'No disc device found. This app requires an Xbox with a disc drive. If this console has a disc drive, it might need servicing at support.microsoft.com/devices. (9x91d7000f)'

Inserting a Blu-Ray disk will do nothing, as will inserting a game disk, a DVD, or a 4k disk. Basically nothing works.

However, just going to do a restart on the Xbox fixes the problem. But only until the next cold boot.

I have my Xbox set to 'Energy Saving' in the boot settings, so no quick boot.

Does anyone have a clue what to do here? I doubt that it is a hardware issue as the drive works just fine after a reboot. I suspect a firmware or software glitch introduced with the XBox One S AD - but that is just my uneducated guess. Any help is appreciated.

    :)

you should also report this issue through the insider hub.
I forgot that was an option. Will do this evening!

I suggest that everyone else experiencing this problem do the same too, noting the early-October timeline. This issue may not be specific to Blu-Ray or Games, but a general problem initializing this optical drive from a cold boot.

Yep same thing here. reads blu rays but only some 4k movies. Even 4k movies that worked a few months ago now do not read. Whoever is in charge of the blu ray app needs to be fired and someone with brains take their job.

    Hello Liberty,

the best way to troubleshoot a possible software issue, after all basic troubleshooting, is performing a

    soft factory reset
. This will reset the operating system and
delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.
You will have to re-sign into your account, so make sure you know the email and password before performing this step. This will also reset the home Xbox settings.

you should also report this issue
    through the insider hub.

If you’re ready to reset your console to the factory default settings, follow these steps:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select System > Settings > System > Console info.
    3. Select Reset console.
    4. On the Reset your console? screen, select
reset and keep my games and apps

    noting the early-October timeline.
I also began having this problem mid-october. I use energysaving, and when I switched to Instant-on, my external HD would spin up every 60 seconds (a separate issue) meaning that was not an option. A factory reset did not help. Now that I see others are
also having this issue, I believe this is software related, and have followed XBF Chris J's suggestion to report the issue on insider hub, and Steve G's suggestion to note the October start time.

I have the exact same problem as mentioned above: the disc drive will only detect discs after a reboot or warm start (Instant On). If I power-down the console (Power Saving configuration), the next cold boot will not detect any game or movie disc. The
drive functions mechanically, but only under warm-boot conditions.

My issue started a couple of days before Oct. 12, 2019, and I found the following software update that coincides with my issue. Is there any way we can roll-back to the previous version or at least get more details on what has changed via this update?
The given description is very general:

    https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/system-update-operating-system

    (OS version - 10.0.18363.7194 (19h1_release_xbox_dev_1910.18363.7194.190929-1945)

I'm not convinced that replacing or servicing the disc drive will solve the problem given the fact that drive works under several conditions.

Completely agree with this timeline. My issue started mid-October. My bet is on a software issue. But so far, all Microsoft responses suggest servicing the drive. Others we with the same issue, please post. I hope they will fix this with an update.
