  1. Xbox dimming when video players are used/syncing controller with kinect

Over the last week, I noticed the xbox one will randomly dim the screen if a video is played, where no activity is on the Kinect or controller. It is not the same as previous dim screen situations where it is dim at startup; this is not like that. This one,
it starts up normally, but dims if the activity from Kinect or controller is zero after 30-45 minutes (normal if videos are watched).

I have done a hard reset, unplugging the power and HDMI and Kinect cabling, which helps to a degree. I don't think it is the HDMI cable because it brightens right back to normal just by moving the joystick or pushing one of the buttons on the controller.
I don't have to restart it if it dims.

The second issue I noticed after the last major update is the controller no longer syncs with the Kinect, but will if the other method is used. (I use the controller with my pc and console) I believe there is a bug in the OS where it does both (both started
    since the last update).

    :)

    Screen dimming during games

Hello, I am pointing out an issue with the screen dimming feature on Xbox One.

When trying to play Fibbage, a game which doesn't require controller input as it uses a browser to answer questions, the screen keeps dimming unless you fondle the controller to keep the console happy it knows you are there.

I believe there used to be an option to disable the dimming feature on Xbox 360, but of course there isn't one on the Xbox One.

  3. OS software fix dimming screen (redoing the OS required)

I think I may have found the issue with the screen dimming while watching videos. It involves the Kinect and the X360 imulation of the older game console. The only true way is to bring back the gestures and have the X360 software on a separate boot partition
on the X1, where the OS purposely asks to reboot under the 360 OS when playing the 360 games.

    1. The gestures were used to keep the system awake and not have it go to a screen saver if no activity was seen by the controller. (the 360 did sleep, but did so if no internet card was active and being used.) The sensitivity with gestures was much higher,
where the smallest movement was detected and recognized as it needing to be active. It also activated the IR for controller syncing (which is no longer there).

    2. The OS also needs to have a boot selection at startup (similar to what Mac does with Boot Camp where it asks whether MAC OS X is booted or Windows 8 or 10)

where the user decides what OS needs to be booted and run.

I have not tried disabling the Kinect and unplugging it, but that also may resolve the screen dimming issue. I don't know if the screen dimming issue is limited to those with the Kinect, or also present on consoles without the Kinect. If people have not
seen this with consoles without the Kinect, I suspect it may be Kinect related. If people without the Kinect also have screen dimming, then it is software related.

    NXOE BUGS & GLITCHES [Sticky]

I notice several bugs with the NXOE software update:

    1. Controller not syncing with the Kinect. Will sync with the other method.

    2. Screen dims out when videos are played. Seems that the software assumes there is no activity, and places the console to sleep. A hard reset may solve this temporarily, but this is unlike the dim screen at startup. Here, the screen is at normal brightness
at startup, but will dim after 15-40 minutes of inactivity of the controller. Moving the controller control buttons and joysticks will wake it up and the screen will brighten up automatically. I was told by MS staff when I called them to change out the HDMI
cable, but I don't think this is the issue. I feel it is a software issue where the operating system assumes there is no activity, where there is with the wifi connection, or drive.

    3. I notice that the Kinect is having a tough time hearing my voice, where before, it operated better.

I work with disabled kids and sometimes use the xbox one console in teaching them how to do stuff with the console. What I find with the NXOE update, what I used before, particularly with the motion sensor is not there anymore, or if it is there, it is not
sensitive enough to pick up a small movement of a hand or body. A physically disabled person is limited physically, and using motion sensors that are sensitive in the adaptive section of the system is needed here. A better assistive technology protocol can
    improve this.

    Xbox power light dimming?

Seems to change based on the light in the room. Kinda like when your phone screen dims. Dark room = dim Xbox logos on the system, Kinect and controller, bright room = bright light.

    XBOX One Screen Dimming Issue

This is a known and pending issue since the new update, particularly when streaming videos. Apparently, it affects those with the Kinect, but also those without the Kinect.

As far as I can tell, the screen dim issue is related to the system not seeing activity with the wifi or other systems other than the controller itself.

The screen should normally dim when you go to the left where your profile and other settings are (that p[art should stay bright).

What's with the dim xbox logo light??

My controller goes dim too. The Kinect one has always been dim. Console bright as day. Controller at varying levels.

do you guys really think that xbox will make kinect will be optional

@icestorm you missed out part of the quote.

"It can when on tell when controller is passed to another person according to MS. So controller may sync to kinect even when kinect features are turned off."

    -

you can't unplug it. so its not off Like standby mode in a tv, its still plugged in. and if you press your remote when in standby?

If kinect and the controller interact with infra red when on ,why wouldn't you just sync the controller through kinect when off,

It would make more sense as kinect is a controller too, I think all the tech to sync the controller is in kinect. The xbox then only has one controller input to deal with, and it all comes from kinect, even when kinect is in standby.

There has to be a legitimate reason why you can't unplug kinect, MS not just being funny
