    XBox Desktop App Error 0x80073cfc When Installing Games


    While attempting to pre-install The Outer Wilds, the XBox app crashed. Upon re-opening the app I am now unable to start the installation for The Outer Wilds, or any other game on the platform, as on beginning the download it immedietly cancels with the
    error code 0x80073cfc.

    I have not been able to find any entry in the error code lookup tool for this error.

    I have restarted my computer, renistalled the Xbox app, manually removed any game files from the Xbox file directory, run the program as administrator, attempted to find and repair corrupted files on my drives, and am still getting this error whenever I attempt
    to install a game via the Xbox app.

    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    install the Gaming Services app, Go to the Apps configuration section and do the Terminate, Repair and Restore of that app.

    Hi, I've just tried all the things you've listed and am still getting the same error.

    For good measure I also attempted installing in on a fresh account on the same computer and am still getting the same error.

    Hi, I had the exact same problem and error code here. After some troubleshooting, my problem was solved by going to Settings>Apps>Apps&Features>Gaming Services>Advanced Options>Repair. Hope this helps!

    sorry to hear. Here some advice to solve your Problem:

    • Is your system really uptodate (please check Windows update and also the Store App).
    • Check if all 4 XBOX Services and the 2 gaming service are running (via taskmanager).
    • Try "AppDiagnostic" to repair the Store.
    • Some games need to be installed at C:
    • Check your hard disk via scandisk and chkdsk /r.
    • If this all fails
      "Try it with a clean boot"
    • Please try to install this games via the store. If this does not work try it via the xbox webside.
