Xbox Credit as Present

Hi,

I have purchased an Xbox One for someone's birthday and I want to get some credit to go with it. Can the credit be used by him to then buy Gold or the Ultimate Pass, or does he need to buy those with his card please? I don't want him to spend cash as a result
of me getting the Xbox for him (well, not initially anyway, after that it's his choice).

Gold will allow them to play online.

Game Pass is a bit like Netflix for games. It'll give them access to a bunch of different games, but they will need Gold in order to play those games online.

I could do that and just give him the credit - tbh the different options (gold, game pass, ultimate, etc.) are a bit confusing to the novice, so I thought giving Game Pass to start with might give him a taste of what he can do... I don't know to be fair
(even because I have a discount offer for Game Pass, but it's only for 3 months - too many choices :-D) - thank you for your advice.

I don't know (don't remember) if prepaid credit can e used to buy Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions, but, you can work around this issue buying a prepaid for code for one of this subscription to gift with the console.

Thank you - that makes sense - I wasn't sure which one was the best option since it's a gift and I don't want to impose an expense on the recipient.
