Xbox controller turns off when connecting to device

I successfully connected the controller to my phone about an hour ago, then turned the controller off. Now when I try to connect the controller to my Xbox One X or my phone, the controller dies Iafter about 2 seconds of holding the connection button down.
The battery is fully charged.

Additionally, I've been having an issue where, if the controller goes to sleep, the controller will act as if the batteries are drained and won't turn back on. (Yes it will still do this on a freshly charged battery).

unfortunately you cannot, the controller is set to ''always'' connect to the last synced device.

you will have to sync your controller every time you want to switch device

and turning off the controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button until it turn off is the intended way of turning it off without turning the Xbox off (when synced to an Xbox), or when synced to another device other then the Xbox

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to handle this kind of problem. I can totally see how this could be pretty distressing especially if you use that controller often. Since it's only happening with one controller, I suggest following
the steps outlined in our Xbox One Wireless Controller Solution.

If that does not work, you might want to consider replacing the controller.

Have you also tried re-syncing the controller to the Xbox by plugging it in via a USB cable to the Xbox? I do this method to re-sync my controller to the Xbox and it works fine for me. Make sure the controller is off, plug it into the Xbox, then turn it
on. It will flash a few times and will then be synced and you can unplug it.

Sounds like it may be the controller itself then....clean around the part where the battery connects to the controller? I also try and avoid putting my controller or any electronic on top of each other, so try not to set it on the microwave or dvd player
or anything the puts out another frequency....I could be just a little too cautious but that's how I try and maintain my things.

I undesrstand that you have full charged he batteries for this test, but maybe you have a faulty battery? sometimes broken battery give you a false positive response on full charge but loose their charge in few minutes. Can you try with different batteries?

Another test, have you tried to connect the controller directly to the console with an USB cable? only to check if in this way the controller works fine so we can exclude a faulty controller and concentrate on the batteries side.
