Xbox Controller Suddenly Malfunctioning - right joystick 'stuck' up

So I was using my Xbox controller on my gaming laptop earlier today and I had no issues whatsoever with using it. I came back to play again about 2 hours later and upon connection to my computer (both wired and wireless) the controller seemed to have a constant upwards input on the right joystick and also on the right trigger? ( for context, I was playing Halo and I was just looking up and shooting with zero control or ability to stop it at all). I have had the controller for about 2 years and it is in very good condition with no physical damage to it. I have had xbox controllers before that have suffered from Joystick 'drift' but this is often a gradual physical defect on the controller. What I experienced this time was extremely sudden and could not be be countered in anyway manually by me moving the joystick in any direction.

In an attempt to remedy this, I have connected my controller to another device (my mobile) and it still has the same issue

I have updated the controller

I have updated all drivers for the controller on my PC

I have downloaded all the most recent necessary and optional windows updates.

I have reset the controller.

Please let me know if anyone has any solutions! As I have mentioned before, I have had to fork out on new controllers multiple times before when it has come to joystick drift and I really dont want to have to spend another £55 to get a new controller due to this one just suddenly decided not to work. Please help!

Thank you for the update. It is possible that this may be a hardware issue with the device. Based on the controller's warranty status or eligibility, you may be able to request an Xbox controller replacement. Hey! So I tried that and still no change to my issue, is there anything else that I can do or has this controller just decided to die on me randomly?

Yes I do, I have tried using the xbox controller on the console as well now and it is also having the same issue. It persists on all titles and menu's that I connect the Xbox controller to. No third party applications are utilizing the xbox controller

Okay thank you! I have a few more questions for you:

Do you have an Xbox One console? There is an option to revert your controller to a previous firmware but it's only available on console.

Is this problem present in all games on your PC or just Xbox app titles?

Do you have any third-party applications that are utilizing the Xbox controller?

Hey there!

When I say I reset the controller - I mean I power cycled it as recommended in thr troubleshooting guides:

Press and hold the Xbox button  for 5-10 seconds, until the controller turns off.
Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Xbox button  again to turn the controller back on.

Have not experienced this issue with any other controllers, just this one. After resetting the controller (as above) I also updated the firmware and still no luck.
