Xbox Controller Running My Motherboard Like An Implanted Virus

So I received my PC less than a month ago. And for the first few weeks I had no issues. About a week ago I was using my Xbox One controller plugged in through my micro USB cable as always, and my computer wouldn't turn on due to "over surge on the desired port". So I unplugged my hard drive believing that was the issue. PC turned on. Found out after it might've been my controller after all. So I switched chords, never had that issue again. Until the controller fell off my desk one time this morning and the chord stripped. End of that chord. So I switched back and shocker, over surge. So I switched the micro USB chord with my keyboard's USB. And well, the controller worked, until a hopped into a game. Then the controller dc'd, and disconnected my mouse and both of my keyboards as well. Nothing plugged into my motherboard would work. So I reset my PC waited ten minutes, turned it back on and here I am now. Keyboards and such work. But I'm afraid anything related to my controller will ruin my motherboard and might leave everlasting effects on my pc. I play just about everything on my computer and I'm very upset. Can someone please help me out.

Had to come to the forums because microsoft seems to lack a solid support team and the company that build my computer wants me to share my screen.

    :)

As above, an Xbox controller won't cause USB port issues ordinarily...it points to either a faulty port on your motherboard, faulty USB controller or a sub-optimal Windows install.

    Is your Windows fully up-to-date?

More importantly, are your chipset drivers up-to-date? Click on the WIndows icon bottom left of your screen...start typing "Device Manager"...click open when it shows up. On the windows that appears, click the little right-side facing arrow on each item to expand....look for any that have yellow exclamation marks as that indicates a driver issue. Right click on any and clik "update driver".

Some of them may be chipset drivers which may need the driver being downloaded direct from the manufacturers site.

Could you please post the specs of your system so we can see what we are dealing with:

    CPU

    Motherboard

    RAM

    GPU

PSU (power supply, mainly what wattage is it)

    Hard drives

At the very least you need a different cable, and likely the port is damaged and causing a short. You’ll probably need to replace the controller if you want to use the USB port

    Hi,

We (or perhaps just me) need so more information about your PC spec before we can determine what the issue could be. Please advise.

This usually only occurs when too many devices (when using a USB hub) or a high powered device/peripheral is plugged in and the PC can't provide sufficient power. An Xbox controller isn't a high powered peripheral, it least not on its own anyway.

Either that or the USB drivers are incorrect.

Rule these out first before looking at faulty hardware. Your Xbox controller can't damage your PC though.

Xbox One controller left trigger very clunky

If it's anything like my controller you probably have a loose screw in your controller and it's getting stuck on either the magnet on the trigger or the magnet on the motherboard. Just make you get it out because I didn't know what the problem was and it
knocked the magnet off the motherboard so now I have a completely useless controller!
