Xbox controller randomly disconnecting - reconneting with Xbox Wireless Adapter

I bought a month ago a Xbox controller "black" model 1914 to play video games on my PC. After struggling to connect my Xbox controller through Bluetooth to my computer, I decided to buy a Xbox Wireless Adapter. After quickly checking that it was working, I bought another Xbox controller "white" model 1914, to be able to play with two local players. Both controllers have the latest firmware version available on the Xbox accessories application. I use the AA battery provided with the controllers.

However, when playing, I experience disconnection only with the Xbox controller "black". Those disconnections happens randomly after 30 minutes - 1 hour of playing. Sometimes it connects back to the controller after few seconds, sometimes I have to restart the computer. In both cases, the light on the controller is white, suggesting that the controller is still connected. The Xbox controller "white" has not experienced those disconnections yet.

I thought

either there is a problem with Bluetooth on my computer with a "known" device such as the Xbox controller "black". The Xbox controller "white" has always been connected to my computer through the Wireless Adapter when the "black" controller has not. I tried using the Xbox controller "black" on my phone, through Bluetooth, and I do not experience any disconnections.

either there is a factory problem with the Xbox controller "black.

I will try unpair/forget the controllers and connect to a different USB port.

My main concern is that while my "black" controller gets disconnected, the "white" controller still behaves properly.

Also, aren't there two different hardware components responsible for classic Bluetooth connections and Wireless Adapter connections within a Xbox controller? In other words, is it possible that the Xbox controller does not have hardware issue with "classic" bluetooth connections but only Wireless Adapter connections?

Yes, the controller does use different hardware for Bluetooth and the wireless adapter connection, so it’s totally possible for one to work fine while the other has issues.

Definitely try unpairing and switching USB ports. If the black controller still drops out while the white one stays solid, it might be a problem with the wireless side of that controller.

Hey Hugo, thanks for posting your question! Sorry you're dealing with this issue after so much troubleshooting.

It sounds like the issue might be with the connection between the Xbox controller and the Wireless Adapter. Since it works fine on your phone via Bluetooth, it’s likely not a hardware issue with the controller itself.

One thing to try un-pair/forget and then re-pair the controller with the Wireless Adapter. You can also test connecting it to a different USB port on your PC, preferably one directly on the motherboard (not through a hub). This can sometimes improve connectivity stability.
