Xbox controller not registering that buttons are being held down

So I have been using my Xbox for 5 days.

The controller will not register that I am continuously holding a button down. It knows that I have pressed the button, but when I hold the button it thinks that I am repeatedly pressing the button, rather than holding it. I only have 1 game, and it is happening
on that game. When I exit the game and go into the Xbox's settings and controller configuration, the buttons are shown as working fine.

Xbox's online troubleshooter and "gamers" who you can chat with have given me the give up non answer of "well just replace the controller". It's only happening in the game so I'm concerned it may be an issue with the game.

I have had it for 5 days, I'm sure that mailing the controller to Microsoft then waiting for them to process it then waiting for the new controller to arrive will take longer then that. I haven't even got the email from Microsoft yet with instructions to
mail it.

Has anybody else with this issue been able to fix it? Yes I: restarted the console, game and controller, yes I replaced the controller's batteries.

Try performing the hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes. Plug the power cord back in and restart
the console.

Try going to the controllers and accessories section in your xbox settings and see if a firmware update is available for your controller.

May I also ask which game you are having this issue with??

Im still confused. You turned on your xbox, then just held down on the xbox button on your controller then also held down on the xbox button?

A few more notes:

- Checked my controller firmware - both are up-to-date (launched update controller to double check)

- Powered down Xbox One - held power button for 8 seconds

- Rebooted laptop

Still same issue with controller input being passed to the app in addition to Xbox App.

I had all the issues but I held down the signal button on the top of the controller and it worked.
