Xbox controller no longer functions when attempting to use it when wired.

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums for this question. When it comes to your controller no longer being functional and you've already exhausted the troubleshooting for the Xbox One controller using the Xbox
One Wireless Controller Solution then you would need to replace the controller if it is beyond the 90 day warranty.

You did mention that there had been battery corrosion in the battery compartment and, insofar as electronics, its possible that the acidity of the battery may have further corroded into the controller case itself and caused damage, or to the posts and the
controller can no longer function correctly unless wired. Either scenario would require a replacement to the controller; however, it is difficult to say that these are the causes, or what the cause may be.

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums with this issue. Is this a wired controller in the sense that the wire is permanently attached or is the wired connection an optional USB type cable? If the latter, then you may try a different USB cable as our
Ambassador recommended. If the former, then you can attempt to plug it into a different device, like a PC, to see if it is recognized. Can you be more specific concerning what about the controller is not functioning?

If you're using a first-party Microsoft Xbox One wired controller, you may wish to attempt to

update the controller to see if that will fix any issues you're experiencing.

Try the troubleshooting and let us know the results.

Wireless / Wired makes a much smaller difference on the Xbox 360 than it does in the PC world (where I base my expertise). As a general rule you want to be wired when you play FPS or fighting games when exacting / miniscule movements count for everything.

One common misconception in the Xbox 360 world is that a directly wired controller functions the same as a wireless controller with the play and charge USB cord attached to it. This is incorrect. In that instance the controller STILL uses the wireless connection
to transmit controller data and the cord is (mostly) used to charge your controller.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that your Xbox 360 controller's R3 button is not functioning correctly. Does this issue occur when you use a different controller? We suggest attempting to use that controller on a different device.
If the R3 button is not responding, the controller may need to be replaced. Be sure to let us know the results!

I used wired when I play PC for both Controller and headset. On xbox, I use a wireless controller, but a wired headset.
