Xbox Controller issue with games and Microsoft apps (ie ,dashboard interactions)

    I am a Preview member.

Since the last two Preview updates I have noticed that my controller commands (Pushing A button) on the dashboard won't respond. Example if i want to open up IE app the action on the dashboard of the item being press is shown but the action isn't executed
meaning i have to press the A button multiple times to get it to execute. I've tried multiple controllers thinking it was the issue but with no resolve.

Another issue is that the left stick of all the controllers I've tried has an up drift. Example if i'm in IE browsing i can't scroll down since the up drift is always scrolling up. When playing Destiny my controller always cause the character the look up.
That's pretty game breaking in my option.

Since i am a preview member i checked with other preview members verifying they have the same OS version all do not experience these issues.

    :)

A button input not working from 3 different controllers.

I have the same issue, but only with controllers that I updated to firmware 1.1.2228.0 (and this issue only exists on xbox dashboard or sub-navigation (ie settings, notifications). Once within games or apps it works fine.

My one controller in firmware 1.1.279.0 works fine.

    Xbox dashboard update issue.

When on the xbox dashboard and xbox quick menu, the 'a' button on the controller loses function,
THIS PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS ON THE DASHBOARD AND QUICK MENU.

the button works normally in launched apps and games, the problem is being able to launch apps and games as well as sending invites to parties, viewing profiles, game invites, signing in and out of accounts, and any other function that uses the 'a' button
on the controller. one thing i know for sure is that the issue is not controller related and is more console related

DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON A NEW CONTROLLER. if you can play games with the controller fine, with out issue, your controller is fine and fully functional. as far as a fix for this issue, i have nothing to offer as switching controllers and resetting
my system doesnt work. it is my conclusion that this is only an issue regarding the xbox preview program and the new dashboard update we are trying out. Any tips on how to fix this issue are greatly appreciated by myself and anybody else experiencing
    this issue.

Xbox Controller issue with games and Microsoft apps (ie ,dashboard interactions)

Hi Puffy! First, as far as the A-button issue, this sounds very similar to other issues which involve the memory getting glutted, due to programs being opened and backed out to home, without fully quitting them. It can happen after switching to many different
apps in a short time, after large updates, or even after long stretches of time with normal use. The best way to fix this is to clear the memory used for "quick resume" and similar features, which is done with a hard reset (hold the power sensor for 8 seconds
until the power brick light flashes orange, wait for the power brick light to turn steady orange, then power back up.) This should allow the apps and games to load quickly.

As for the drifting upward, that sounds more like a controller issue. Have you made sure your controller is updated to the most recent firmware? If so, are you able to try a different controller to see if you have the same issue?

I tried the hard reset and it didn't resolve the button issue.

s far as the controller drift it's happens on all controllers I've tried. Also I have used my controller on another console and it worked normally.

    Hey buddy,

Just to elaborate on Jaymo's awesome response. To update the firmware of your controller (or make sure it is up to date) follow these instructions:

    Update your controller

1.Make sure your console is on and you’re signed in and connected to Xbox Live.

Note It’s important to connect to Xbox Live because your console will need the latest system update, which contains the newest controller software. If you’ve connected recently, your Xbox One is probably already up to date, but you should connect anyway
just to be sure. If your console needs an update, you’ll be prompted to install one.

2.Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on the side of the console.

3.Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller. .

    4. press the Menu button, select Settings, select Devices & Accessories, select the controller that you’re updating, select Update and then select Continue.

5.When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable. If you have additional controllers to update, connect them now, one at a time, select the Update another button on the screen and then follow the steps.

    Then power cycle again:

Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 10 seconds.

◾Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.

◾Wait 5 minutes and then plug in your console.

◾Power on your console and check to see if the issue is continuing.

And hopefully that should fix it.

If not, I'd reccomend having a look in this thread and posting there:

I failed to mention that all controllers were up to date (1.2.2236.0 firmware as of this moment), with OS Version (6.2.12819.0(xb_rel_1505.150430-2200))

I did the hard reset and left the console unplugged from the power supply over night and no resolve.
