xbox controller home button issue wont resolve

long story short,

i play on the xbox one X if it matters

the factory controller went kaput (which i guess is typical)

my old xbox one controller was a fill in

i paid w.e it is 150$ i think for a new controller because im tired of crappy quality

my brandddd new out of the box xbox one elite controller, the home screen button choose when it works.... more often not, and as of now it works not at all

i have hard-cycled the console multiple times, i have straight unplugged the thing for a good 10 minutes and NOTHING has helped, its seemingly gotten worse. have the connected by usb cable.. doesn't work

initially by switching to profile 2 on the controller i could hit the home button and it work, and switch profile back to 1.

that stopped working.

now i either dont use my braaaaaand new 150$ controller or i have to keep the old controller next to me and turn it on and hit the home button.

every video, every googled response every person says the same inane thing "oh just unplug the xbox" yea doesn't work

so console up to date, controller up to date, other controller home button works, elite controller home button occasionally works, xbox has been cycled and unplugged multiple times.

anyone have the same issue which required something else to resolve? im trying to avoid resetting/wiping the xbox or something.

My Xbox One controllers home button isn't working

if my Xbox is off the home button will still turn the console on but after that the home button wont work. I already updated the controller and I've tried another controller and I had the same problem. All of the other buttons work correctly on the controller
other than the he home button.

 

How is your Elite Controller holding up?

There is the light clicking but the home button issue must be a defect as my home button works flawlessly.

i mean ive had it for 3 days now i should hope it is...

my fear is going through that.. and the next/replacement does the same thing.

but its looking likely it will be what i have to do...

Sorry to hear about what's up with your Elite controller.

If you have only had it for 3 days it would totally be in warranty.

And you should be able to have it replaced.

The process usually takes two weeks to get you your replacement but is free.

Let us know how that helped with the issue.

 

let me add that the controller will turn the xbox on via the home button..... which makes me think theres a software issue and that a new controller wont change anything...

Is the old controller still linked to your profile? If so try linking the elite to your profile seeing that it does work on profile 2.

Also just a whim but is the console plugged directly into the wall?

If all these don't help then I suggest getting a repair being it still new and if still within first five days if bought at a store like Gamestop, Best Buy you might be able to still swap at store.

3 controllers are now linked to the xbox, im not sure how to unlink the old ones but initially i had linked the elite to automatically sign in my profile when signing in.

again the odd part is it had worked at times, i re synced the control once and the home button worked perfectly for the rest of the night, the next day its back to not working....

and as for the plug question i unplug the xbox from the console if it matters, as in taking the power cord out of the console.... its plugged into a power strip otherwise

From the sounds of things it sounds like there are two controls linked to the same account with two button mapping settings or multiple settings.

Try to remove the account and then power cycle the console! How to restart or power cycle your Xbox One console


After power cycling the console then try to re-add the account.

i tried this out with much hope, i unlinked all 3 controllers from my account.

i removed the account, power cycled the xbox, when it turned back on clear of accounts the controller in question's home button still wasnt working :-\

i re-added my account anyway and changed my elite controller settings back to default everything on both profiles 1&2 just in case..

still nothing

if it matters when i first used the controller it updated without the USB cord whereas the other controllers required it if it matters.

ive check the firmware on it multiple times, plugged in and not.

i may try a factory wipe on the xbox.. i really dont want to go thru the warranty process

Instead of a full factory, there is the option of a
soft reset which would keep your games and apps. That way it will be a short process when trying to test out the controller again on the console.

Its just wierd because the button clearly registers.. as it will turn the xbox on.. but then that's all

 

Hello try plugging it directly into the wall not a power strip and since all others have been done if that doesn't help I suggest getting a repair.

Contact US to set up repair or swap at store if they will allow.
