Xbox Controller - headset connection issues

I purchased an Xbox 1 back in April. This is the one where the controllers do not require an adapter for headsets. It seems like every headset or earbuds my son uses, it does not detect the microphone. He can hear but not talk. Sometimes it will be intermittent,
but this applies to both controllers. Is there a "best" headset to use?

Recieved my New Xbox One from UPS...and can't play it lol

I too have been having the issue with controller losing connection. It happens for a few seconds then reconnects, I also have an issue with the headset, sometimes I can't be heard in chat and have to unplug then plug it back into the controller.

I still have the headset issue, but since the Feb update I have yet to encounter the controller sync issue since. I'll keep an eye on it, but was only intending to try and replace the Day One controller and possibly the headset... is swapping out the console really necessary?

Mic is acting strange

This can be caused by either the headset is faulty or the connection to the controller is bad. Has he tried a different headset at all?

The only solution to this is for him to buy a new headset or controller. Maybe even a wireless headset.

If he has issues with other wired ones then it could be his controller. If he doesnt have another headset try the current headset a different controller.

Hi

Generic headsets should work fine, however any Apple/Apple compatible headsets won't work as they created a different connection format.

When connected, also check in the guide, that the mic isn't muted.

Other than not aligning the prongs up, there are no issues.

I have experienced this myself.

Many of the newer headsets are not compatible with the original xbox controller headset jack. I tried several headsets before discovering this issue.

Static usually means it is not getting a good connection due to the headset jack not connecting completely.

It should work if you buy a xbox headset adapter.

You may also try powering off the controller. Plug in the headset. Once it shows the headset is connected. Press the xbox button on the controller and scroll to the audio settings. Make sure the the slider for the mic is turned to the on position. Also try
adjusting the mic and headset control volumes and mic sensitivity in this menu.
