    Xbox controller headphone jack stopped working


    Hi,

    Over a year ago after a system update, both of my xbox controllers’ headphone jack stopped working. Before the update both were functional. Got the update and they stopped working. When you go into the settings and config of the controller you can’t select
    the volume option. When you go to the chat the mic is stricked out, muted. Searched the internet applied all proposed fixes etc. Did a hard reset without any luck. I was waiting for a fix coming with the updates but I gave up along time ago. Now my son wants
    to voice chat with his friends while playing so need a fix on that.

    My OS version is 10.0.19041.1927, shows the most up to date. Again I’ve tried the standard troubleshooting steps suggested to many users with the same issue, please save us time and skip them.

    It could be that the headphone jack on the controller stopped working. In that case no, you can't fix it.

    Sounds like it could be the headphone jack on the controller itself. That's usually what goes out when a mic stops working.

    It might be your controller, i have dropped mine on occasion or dragged it off the desk because i forgot to take my headphones off, eventually the headphone jack just stopped working. you might need to get another controller.

    I've bought a new controller and the mic on that one is working, so in a weird way both of my previous two controller's jack has been broken at the same time.

    I was going over the list you have provided. My headset is working perfectly on my phone and ipad so it's not the issue. I couldn't find some of the menu items mentioned like the 'Mic on' and 'Adjust volume'. Then I've realized the mic sign on the right
    top corner of the screen where the time and the battery was shown is crossed over. I've tried a simple headphone without a mic built in, and the icon switched to a headset and I could access the menu items I've mentioned not there before, like the volume and
    adjust volume. So looks like either the jack is malfunctioning (which is very unlikely as both my controller got the same issue at the same time) or there is some software issue.

    Any thoughts?
