XBox controller charging but not detected when plugged on USB port

Hello,

I have a weird behavior with my XBox controller since Windows 21H1 update :

when synced with the wireless adapter, the controller is working fine.

when i plug the controller on USB with the official cable, the controller vibrates and starts charging, but i'm not able to keep it on and play through USB as i used to. The Xbox button will keep flashing for 30s approximatively then the controller will turn off (but it's still charging). In the meanwhile, it's not possible to sync the controller with the wireless adapter

I'm thus unable to use the controller while charging, which is a hurdle during long gaming sessions. Once the controller battery is full, and USB is unplugged, sync with wireless adapter is achievable making the controller usable again.

I've tried several manipulations advised (changing USB port, reinstalling controller updating controller firmware through XBox Accessories...) but nothing has changed.

I am sorry you are experiencing issues playing on the PC while the controller is plugged in via USB.

What type of controller are you using? (Xbox one controller, Xbox Series X|S controller, Elite Series 1 or 2 controller?)

What is the current firmware on your controller?

Have you tried unpairing the controller (completely remove it from your PC) then plug it in like new with the USB cable?

Please try reverting the firmware on your controller to the previous FW by following these steps on your Xbox console.

To do this, Navigate to My Games and Apps, > Apps > Xbox Assist > Articles > Console & Accessories > "My controller has connection issue after the last update" > Check controller firmware > Revert Firmware

Hello XBF - Hayabusa,

I am using a XBox One controller. I checked again for Firmware update and there was an update to v2.3.2385.0.

It has changed slightly the behaviour of the controller :

if the controller is switched on while plugged on USB, XBox button will flash approximatively 20 seconds and the controller will shut down (no change on this part)
If controller is switched on while in wireless mode, it starts normally. It is then possible to plug USB cable to charge the battery (before this update, battery charge would not start when the controller was on and connected to bluetooth)

I tried removing the controller then installing through USB, but since the controller can't stay on while on USB, controller is not detected.

You could plug the controller plug and charge kit through the USB port with your xbox and charge it that way.
