Xbox controller both 360 and Xbox One error when plugged in (USB device not recongnised)

When I plug in an xbox controller into any usb port in my pc it often will error out with,

"USB device not recognised" "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognise it."

I believe this to be a driver problem I have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting dozens of times in dozens of different ways, I even tried downloading a different driver online but it seems impossible to install a driver that windows doesn't automatically
get.

Is there a way for someone to forceably reinstall the xbox controller driver?

I have tried for dozens of hours to fix this and the only solution I can think of at this point is to buy a whole new work computer.

To make it more frustrating I bought a wireless adapter and can now use my xbox one controller but I cannot use it through remote desktop which is something I need for work. So I really need to get a wired controller working on my pc.

Some more info, sometimes the controller works even when getting an error but it eventually stops working I think related to a rumble function or some other function causing the driver or something to crash. The controller input locks in whatever it was
and doesn't come back until I replug it in. Which is another coin flip on if it will work temporarily or not once replugged in.

I tried a windows reset and it didn't fix the issue. I could try a full reformat next but I hope there is some other way to overrid windows 10 and get a driver that works...

Hi JoshThrelfall,

You should be able to install any drivers you've downloaded using Device Manager:

Press Windows key + X

Click Device Manager

Find the Xbox Controller (usually it will be in Input Devices, but it might be under or Other Devices)

Right click on it and selcet "Update Driver Software"

Choose "Browse My Computer For Driver Software"

Select the location that you saved the downloaded driver

Press Next and Windows should install it for you.

After that, reboot your PC.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers you downloaded as described above?

If so, the next thing to try would be to update your USB drivers.

I just right clicked everything in device manager and hit update, I don't think any usb updated, regardless I still have the same issue. I can't get it to connect at all now. Is there a way to uninstall xbox 360 controller driver without having the controller
connected?

*Edit : Using show hidden files option in "View" I was able to uninstall xbox controller drivers and restart and have them reinstalled. Still same error.

Due to the error/failure the controller comes up as

"Unknown USB DEvice (DEvice DEscriptor Request Failed)"

I have uninstalled this maybe 100 times. And repugged in the controller and rebooted and done all of that every time.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Gunner.....I'm not a techie, but a USB is a type of cable and connection......an example...you plug your controller into your xbox via a usb cord. Those plug ins there on your 360 are USB.

Both consoles will have USB ports. So, if you have a usb cable, you will be able to plug your 360 into the Xbox One using a USB cable.
