I will get straight to the point.

Many many (way too many) XBox controllers, suffer from drifting issues.

Some are fixable, some are not (without changing the actual analog stick in the controller).

Why after all these years of driver maturity, doesn't someone add dead-zone settings in controller calibration?

It would solve SO many issues.

Actually after all these years, even response curve should be configurable, but this seems to be "too complex" for MSFT, so at least consider DEAD ZONES.

    :)

Why isn't there a way to change controller deadzone universally.

Hello O S, I am an independent advisor and I will be happy to help you today. My name is Khaji

Controller dead zone settings may vary between different games and platforms due to individual design preferences and development approaches. Although some games allow you to adjust the controller's dead zone, not all offer this option.

The controller dead zone can affect the sensitivity and response of the controls in a game. Some game developers may prefer to set a specific dead zone to ensure a balanced and consistent gaming experience for all players. Allowing universal dead zone adjustments could affect the original intent of the game design.

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding! If you need anything else, do not hesitate to contact us again.

    Controller Dead Zones

unfortunately i don't think anyone on this forum can really help with that, and definitely not any official microsoft support, because that is a 3rd party controller.

you could try to buy those little attachments that go on the stick and extend them. that gives a greater degree of control, but you may not like the feel of it.

another option would be to have the joysticks replaced, or replace the entire controller. if you find the afterglow controllers are all similar in regards to their dead-zone, the only thing i can suggest is to try another brand or model of controller.

Will Starfield have keyboard and mouse support on series X/S?

It's a massive shame. The controller sensitivity settings on console are weird. There are a couple of sensitivity bars but one seems to govern both acceleration and dead zone at the same time, so the only way to eliminate the dead zone is to maximize the acceleration. I've played a bit on PC but my laptop can only deal with low on everything. It generally hits 50fps, but the k&m is just perfect for a Scrolls style RPG. Makes no sense not to include k&m when it already works so well in other applications on Xbox.

Why is there no option in the console to control the dead zone of a controller stick?

    Hello Dylicious Dyl,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you are experiencing an issue with the left stick of your controller, and you are looking for a solution to adjust the dead zone of the controller stick. This can be indeed a nuisance, especially when it affects your navigation on the device. Just to set proper expectation, I would like you to be aware that the Xbox accessories app on the console does not have an option to adjust the dead zone of the controller stick. Let's go ahead and check what we can do best to help address your concern today.

The ability to adjust the dead zone of a controller stick varies by console and sometimes even by the specific controller model. For example, the Xbox's Elite controller allows you to make a customer dead zone. However, this feature is not universally available across all consoles or controllers. There were some games provide options within their settings to adjust the controller's dead zone. This allows for customization on a game-by- game basis, which can be useful given that optimal dead zone settings can vary depending on the game.

There are few things you can try to apply on your end. See the following below:

    • Firstly, you can try recalibrating the controller. To do this, go to the Xbox accessories app on your console, select the controller you want to calibrate, and then select "Calibrate." Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration process.
    • If recalibrating the controller does not work, you can try cleaning the controller stick. Sometimes, dirt and debris can get stuck in the controller stick, causing it to malfunction. To clean the controller stick, use a soft-bristled brush or a toothbrush to gently clean around the stick. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as this can damage the controller.
    • Make sure that updates are installed.

If any case the issues persists, please allow us to know the following information:

    1. Is the issue presented on a particular game? Or it happened to all of the game?
    2. I assume your controller is up to date, right?
    3. Have you tried connecting your controller to another device like PC, or phone? Will the issue persist?

I hope this information helps you resolve the issue with your controller. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

    Kind regards,
