    Hi John Smith_164,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forums. We appreciate for sharing your concern with us and we hope that you are doing well today.

We understand the inconvenience caused. As per description, your PC will automatically activate wake mode when you lug in the controller. Let us check on this together and sort this out to assist your concern.

However, we’d like to know more about it in details so that we can provide a more accurate resolution for you. To start, please provide us information/answer on the following questions:

    1. When did the issue start?
    2. What is the current version and edition of Windows Installed? (Search for WINVER in Windows search to see this)
    3. Xbox app and Gaming services version? Xbox app > select Profile picture > Settings > About.
    4. What troubleshooting steps have you done?
    5. have you updated Windows and driver system?
    6. Recent activity or changes made before the issue appeared?
So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.

    Solution 1.

    1. Go to command prompt under admin mode (when you click the app, right click it)
    2. Type "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed"
    3. This gives you a list of the devices currently allowed to wake your computer.
    4. Go to device manager.
    5. Click each category to find the subcategories of the same name (Network d Adapters and Controller)
    6. Right click that and select "properties"
    7. Click "Power management"
    8. Uncheck and save "allow this device to wake the computer."
    Solution 2. Uninstall/Reinstall GPU-driver:

To reinstall the driver, you need to uninstall the driver first.

    1. Search for Device Manager in the search bar and open the utility. Then navigate to Display adapters, right click on your GPU, and select Properties. From there, navigate to the Driver tab. The tab displays the options to Update Driver, Roll Back Driver, and Uninstall Device.
    2. Install a new graphics driver.
Let us know the result and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We may recommend further troubleshooting steps once we have received your answers to the above questions.

We will be glad to follow up and help you.

    Sincerely,

Xbox Wireless Adapter does not work on laptop

    Hey there!

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to check to see if you tried this portion of the troubleshooting resource:

The adapter was working but isn't responding now
    .

If your adapter was installed and working, but it did not respond after waking your computer, this may be because your USB controller doesn't have Wake on Wireless turned on by default. This can typically be managed by the USB controller driver.

There are two solutions to this:

    1. While your Windows 10 device is running, unplug the device, and then plug it back in.
    2. If that didn't work, you can adjust the properties to enable Wake on Wireless. In the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows Properties window, make sure to select
Allow the device to wake the computer. To do so, follow these steps:
      1. Go to your Device Manager.
      2. Select Wireless Adapter for Windows in the Network adapters section.
      3. Click Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows to bring up the Properties window.
      4. Click the Power Management tab.
      5. Select Allow this device to wake the computer, and then select
        OK.

Try this out and let us know the results.

Try these tips from the link above:

      5. Select Allow this device to wake the computer, and then select
        OK.

If the binding instructions are not working, try the following solutions:
      • Ensure you're within range (6 meters or less) of the adapter and it's in line of sight to the controller.
      • If you have an Xbox controller, try rebinding your controller to the console by pressing the Connect button on the console, and then the Connect button on the controller. The LEDs will flash and become solid when the binding is successful. If your controller
does bind, you have isolated the issue to the Wireless Adapter for Windows. If your controller does not bind to your console, see

Set up the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows
        .
      • Unplug your adapter, reboot your device, and then plug it back in (to another port if possible), and try again.
