Xbox Console Companion: how to allow chat notifications pop-up via Windows?

So I recently graduated high school, and the only way my best friend and I have kept contact is via Xbox chat. However, I have terrible memory and forget to check the Xbox Companion app all the time. Is there a way to allow Windows to show Xbox chat notifications,
so I can see when my friend sends a message as soon as he sends it?

If you're logged into a Windows 10 PC on the Xbox Companion App then Windows 10 should show you when messages are sent. If you open the app and click on Settings then Notifications you'll be able to set what you see from Xbox

It supports messages. It supports person-to-person messages, one-on-one chat. What it doesn't support is Group Messaging, which is what the Game Bar is for. The problem isn't with the Console Companion or Game Bar, it's with how the messages are being sent
through the Notifications app (in the lower right hand corner of any PC) and how message notifications are endlessly repeating, both in the Notifications window, and the pop-ups that slide in from the right side of the screen.

I'm a PC gamer playing on a laptop. I'm having a problem with the way Console Companion messages from friends are interacting with my Notifications app.

Recently, messages I get via the Console Companion keep appearing and reappearing and reappearing in my Notifications window (with an accompanying popup and tone alert) even after they've been cleared multiple times. I have to turn on Focus Assist just to
get a little peace as the same messages will continue to pop up and play the tone ceaselessly until I do so, about once every second or two.

It used to only happen only rarely with game invites from Minecraft friends. But ever since I installed the 1903 update, it's now happening more and more frequently with chat messages.

Is anybody else having this problem? And how do I fix it?

as far as I know, the Xbox Companion App on PC doesn't support messages right now. Did you try to open the Xbox Game Bar (Win + G) and check the inbox?
