XBox Console Companion App Not Functioning Properly

The first thing I would need you to do is to make sure that your Windows has the latest update: Select check for updates now, and then select Check for updates. Or, select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates. If there is an available update, select Install now.

After that, you will need to check for any updates available for the app. If not, reinstall the app.

• On the taskbar, select Microsoft Store to open it.
  
• If you don't see Microsoft Store on the taskbar, it might have been unpinned. Here's how to find it: In the search box on the taskbar, enter Microsoft Store, then select it from the list.
  
• After you've opened Microsoft Store, select More > Downloads and updates > Get updates.
  

Then, regarding your console, try to preform a Soft Factory Rest by selecting Reset and keep my games & apps. It will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data that can cause this issue without deleting your games or apps.

To Reset your console, Select System > Settings > System > Console info > Select Reset console > Choose Reset and keep my games and apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

I've already done both of those previously; every answer to every question about XBox issues starts with "Try resetting your console to factory defaults first". My first thought after seeing your answer this morning was if there is a way to force-check for console updates, but I'm not sure that there are any updates my console doesn't already have.

I did just get a Windows update this morning, and that has been successfully installed. So there are no pending updates for my PC, which takes that out of the equation as well.

If it weren't for the controller issue, I'd believe this is a wifi problem. But why would my PC continue to tell me it needs a controller when I'm using the wireless one that my XBox - which is one floor below me, by the way - recognizes when I'm streaming? That's just odd.

Any other advice or tips? Or should I just move my XBox into my office and play on it directly with one of the 4 screens I have set up? I don't want to do that; I like the freedom of being able to play in multiple rooms if I want to. But this is frustrating.

Reinstall the Xbox Companion app and reset the console to factory defaults, you won't lose anything but you will need to log in with your account again. Email and password are required.

Follow this path and select reset keeping games and app.

In 5 to 10 minutes you will finish reconfiguring your console

To reset the console>

Settings> System> Console Info> Reset Console

***Do not reset the console without having your account login information.

Make sure the PC app you're using is specifically called Xbox Console Companion, not the Xbox app. Those are 2 different things. The Xbox app itself has never been updated to add that function on PC.

The console companion app was discontinued in January along with the rest of windows eight and no longer function. You've been intended to use the Xbox app built into Windows 10 and up since 2015
