Xbox Companion App barely functions.

I posted this to the general Microsoft support forums and was told I might find help here.

tried using the Xbox Companion App on my new laptop running Windows 10 in order to play multiplayer games with friends. After making an account and adding friends without trouble, it started throwing errors when I tried to check my connection or join a chat.
Based on what I see when I check my connection or try to join a chat, my NAT type and Server Connectivity vary wildly, and if they're ever both usable, it never lasts for more than 30 seconds before they cut out entirely.

I looked through all of the recommended fixes linked in-app, and tried every single one, probably twice over. I've looked for youtube videos as well, but nobody else seems to have the exact problem I am. Every other case I see involves the connection simply
not working at all, whereas mine feels like spotty wi-fi (regardless of how good the actual wi-fi connection is).

Early on I kept finding problems that needed fixing and could have been the source of the initial symptom, such as updates getting backed up and firewall settings not being correct. However, I've gone through and fixed them all and I still can't connect
to the Xbox Companion servers. I can't find any other leads as to what could be causing these connectivity problems.

If you have had issues with other devices on your network I could very well be a router issue. I would definitely look into getting a newer router.

For chat it seems like this could be a suitable replacement, but would it replace the multiplayer features of the Companion App too?

It could absolutely be my router, since in tests I've noticed that it likes to cut out entirely for a few seconds at a time, here and there. I don't have another router to test it with, but I had the same problems with the app while using my phone as a mobile
hotspot.

Thank you for the update. It's odd that your laptop is still having connectivity issues after updating to Windows version 1903.

Stable connectivity to Xbox Live on Windows is very dependent on having the correct region, language, and time zone settings to be correct and match to where you reside. In order to connect you to the correct servers for your region/time zone, Xbox Live
uses your Windows regional system settings. Making sure your region, language, and time zone are all correct is the first thing you should check and if they are, then restart your laptop and try to run the network tests again.

As far as the
Xbox Game Bar goes, it is essentially an extension of the Xbox Console Companion app that you can access while playing a game in Full-screen mode. Without using the Game Bar, you would have to ALT+TAB to minimize the game and access the app, interrupting
play. All of the multiplayer features, like party chat or inviting players, looking for groups, etc., can be done from the Xbox Game Bar. You can even

personalize the Game Bar and set preferred shortcuts.

Let us know if those settings had anything to do with the unstable connection.
