From looking through the posts i still see a lot of people are still having this problem: The mic icon is always on, even when the headset is unplugged, and when plugged in, nobody can hear me speak.

Have tried different controllers, headsets, everything else recommended here

Is a fix for this coming soon? It is crazy so many are still having this problem and nothings been done so far

I would suggest following that main thread and waiting for an answer. Just because Mr Beep marked his replay as the answer, just means they've acknowledged the issue. When there is a solution it will be posted there.

I'm on the same boat as well, this is unacceptable.

 

I've been dealing with this problem for two years and I've given up trying to fix it, I have to use my **** kinect to talk to my friends. If you are experiencing this issue, give up trying to get help. Microsoft will not help you or try to solve the issue
in any meaningful way.

 

I also am having this same issue. I can hear my friends talking but they can no longer hear me. I've tried talking through Kinect...nope.

I've tried headset...nope.

So frustrated. You pay so much money for these consoles and they can't fix an issue like this.

 

@AnyMicrosoftReps... Is there a fix to this issue that has been known of for three years now? I've read through this entire 50 page thread now, with nobody having a guaranteed fix for the issue... I'm trying to help a friend who is having the issue. I swear
if I get a response to try the troubleshooting trash, which clearly does not help, I'll make sure that half of the people with Xbox ones don't buy Xboxes again, not that it would be hard with how terrible customer service is... This is a joke that this has
been known of for three years and still is not fixed.

 

OK, I just had This issue for the last 2 days and i just fixed it on my Xbox, here's how my issue was resolved:

Not sure if all of these steps are required, just giving the exact steps i took.

1) With the Xbox on i held the Xbox button on the controller and turned off the Controller only.

2) Then I did a hard reset on the console (hold the Xbox button on the console until it turns off)

3) remove the headset and adapter from the controller

4) turn on the Xbox (i had my controller connected with the USB - not sure if this is necessary)

5) waited for the console to boot and then signed in

6) Plugged in the headset directly to the 3.5mm jack (do not connect the adapter yet) and waited for the Xbox to recognize the headset

7) open the menu and when you highlight the settings option there should be the Xbox default chat/volume settings available - In these settings the mic was turned off, I just turned it back on and my issue was resolved.

For some reason the volume/chat settings were not available before i followed these steps, even when i had the headset plugged directly into the 3.5mm jack.

My problem is on Xbox one. I just received an update. Now this is happening to me. Great.

 

Did anyone ever get a fix for this? Just doing a quick google search shows this is a pretty serious problem......

 

i just got this today, it was working fine in chat a couple minutes ago, then i muted my mic for a while ( little brother in background wouldnt shut up, and the party didn't want to hear it) and then my friend started calling my name, i turn my mic
on, and talk. he keeps calling my name, it shows my mic's plugged in but he cant hear me.

if i push the wire inwards towards the controller extremely hard my mic can be heard for a few seconds but thats all, the wire cant be broken because i still hear them through the headset

i dont feel like replacing the console as this is new (just got it this christmas) and i already have all my stuff downloaded onto it, if anyone finds a fix for this please let me know

although when i DO unplug the mic, it registers it as unplugged and plays sound through the tv, and the mute light works, and it beeps when putting it to max volume

 

How does this help the people who use the default xbox chat headset? i dont use a 3.5mm jack headset

 

My brother is another unfortunate person with this issue and he came across it a few months after the console's release. He can use any other headset that's not the original basic Xbox wired headset. He hasn't tried the newer 3.5 mm one yet. I feel that
it might be more a profile issue (not sure what exactly the problem is), seeing as he, and others, still have this headset issue after getting another console entirely. I feel everyone, like my brother, gave up and purchased a different headset. Can anybody
out there confirm whether this issue still persists with the 3.5 mm wired MS Xbox One headset or not? (Getting a new controller and another original wired headset didn't resolve his issue either.)
