Xbox Chat Headset echo

My old Xbox One Chat headset that I had for years finally died. Just stopped broadcasting anything from the mic. I got a new one and I got this weird issue where everyone in the party can hear their voice echo through mine. So I tried it with an old, different controller, the issue persisted. I even got a new chat headset from the Microsoft store itself and again, the same issue. I’ve checked all the settings on my Xbox, can’t change the volume in the guide because the chat headset doesn’t allow that. It seems to fix itself for about a minute if I disconnect it and reconnect it but comes back. I’ve power cycled my console and everything. It’s driving me insane.

The only thought is that it could be an Xbox or controller update that has borked up but I can’t update my controller or the console at this present time.

I also have issues with a friend and echo. This really seems related to the headset they use.

That friend's cat chewed through their headset cable, and he had to use a different one, and I always heard myself VERY CLEARLY with a slight delay. This made it

After he replaced his headphones with the standard Xbox mono-chat headset, the echo was gone.

If your friend just switches from one kind of headsets (e.g. he has multiple phone headsets like the cable Apple Earbuds), they might all give you an Echo, but if he switches to a completely different type of headset, like the original Xbox chat headset,
the Echo should go away.

If he wants to have a headphone that also supports game sound, he might have to do some trial and error to find a headset that works without Echo. Or get a certified Xbox One compatible headset. For example, personally I use a Plantronics RIG400HX, which
is a reasonably priced headset, with excellent quality.

Did you get the exact same make and model headset?

Go to the Xbox Accessories app, turn mic monitoring off. Let me know if this fixes it.

Didn’t work but thanks. Still doing it. Again I can’t hear the echo, only others in the party. If they speak quietly, doesn’t seem to happen. Haven’t got it coming through the tv and it’s a chat headset like I said, so it’s not like I’m using it for game sound.
