    Brand new Xbox One console power supply defective out of box.

    Xbox One power block on first use, out of box, arced inside, and caught on fire. Now Microsoft wants me to pay shipping and pay $35 to replace it.

    Some of you are right...

    Remember that when the Xbox was revealed that was also around the time the US media and stuff got all paranoid over electronics spying on people. So that Kinect stuff caught like wild fire.

    The issue customer support could not help you is because an update will not cause the xbox to catch fire. Thats an overheating issue, and you have no proof that you correctly have your xbox in a safe place to allow ventilation. So could be a user issue.
    Be prepaired to spend some money on getting it fixed or getting a new one.

    The console has several safeguards and temperature sensors built in to prevent the console catching fire. Additionally, the electronic components all have fire inhibitors that make it very hard for fire to actually burn long and hot enough to ignite it's
    surroundings.

    Also, a software update rolled out to millions of devices causing fire in one single unit is very unlikely.

    So all you can do is unplug the console and go to https://devicesupport.microsoft.com and sign it up for a repair.

    If you still think, that the console was an actual fire hazard, get an expert witness to examine the console, so they can prove that the console would have had the ability to burn your house down. Then press legal charges based on that expert opinion.
