Xbox can't connect to wifi network

I have an Xbox 360, about 3 yrs old, and I'm trying to connect to Xbox Live for the first time. We have a router and an active wifi network, but when I try to connect to Live from the list of available networks and I select my wireless network, I get a screen
that says, "Test Failed. There's a problem with your connection." When I select "More Info," it says, "Your console cannot connect to your wireless network." What am I doing wrong?

Can't connect xbox 360 slim to a wireless network

I am trying to connect my xbox 360 slim to my wifi network but it doesn't work. My mac is emitting a wifi signal and my xbox can see it but can't connect to my wifi network. What is wrong?
