xbox blu ray player not working with Yamaha RX-A760

I bought a Yamaha RX-A760.

I have an xbox S and an xbox X, a PS4 and various PCs that I connect to my 1080p Sharp 3D TV via the receiver.

The PS4 and all the PCs work well with the receiver.

I can play DVD and Blu-Rays from the PS4. The PS4 can play 3D films through the receiver.

My xboxes menus work fine and I can play games OK (Tested with Halo 5).

But...

The Blu-ray app does NOT work with my receiver.

Symptoms...

Play any DVD or Blu-ray

The screen will go black, there will be no sound, even ejecting the disk is not guaranteed to take me back to the xbox menus.

The status screen on the front of the receiver normally shows which HDMI input is active and displays icons to show which speakers are attached. I have a 5.1 setup so it shows the left/right front speaker icons plus the center, back 2, and subwoofer icons.

When things go wrong the speaker icons flash on then off repeatedly and some red text flashes (it just says HDMI).

If I switch the receiver between HDMI inputs... it sees the PS4 and PCs just fine. When I return to the xbox I see an assortment of things:

1) A warning msg flashes up twice that is hard to read. It looks like it is saying that my HDMI input is incompatible. But, try as I might, I just can't read it. There are several lines and they aren't on screen long enough.

2) The film starts playing in 3D (happened once or twice with my xbox S but I don't think I've been this lucky with the xbox x)

2) The film starts playing in 2D.

3) The screen stays black (the most frequent case)

Things I have tried to fix the problem...

1) Switched around cables (though all my cables are capable of showing 3D films without any artifacts or glitches)

2) Switched receiver modes between Mode 1 and Mode 2 (several times)

3) Set audio to (passthrough?) to have the receiver decode the audio.

4) use bitstream mode and downloaded and ran the Dolby app (it claims that I am properly setup)

5) Uninstalled and reinstalled the blu-ray app.

I'm stuck now. is this a known issue? Is there a fix? Is MS working on a blu-ray app fix?

Has anyone encountered this problem and solved it?

Two final piecs of information...

1) on the rare occasions when the disks are playing... it looks like the box is working overtime and I see stuttering and the audio gets out of sync with the visuals when it recovers from the stuttering. Selecting the start of the chapter will restore the
sync. The stuttering generally only happens once then things are fine and I can watch the rest of the film.

2) my xbox one s fares better than the xbox X. It's not great but is more likely to work. Now that i think about it. I think that the best I've seen from the xbox x is the part of the film's menu that asks me if I want to play the film (or the screen that
asks me if I want to resume a previous playback)

:)

Xbox One / AV Receiver / Blu-ray blank screen

I have just connected my Xbox One to a Yamaha RXV377 AV Receiver. Everything is working fine until I select the blu-ray player. I then get a blank screen, with just the sound playing. The blank screen remains, even after ejecting the disc. I had no blu-ray
issues when connected to a TV. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for giving us a complete information. This will help us isolate your issue. Basically, the main issue could be the Blu-ray app on your Xbox console since the disc is working fine on a different device. But for us to make sure of everything, is
this problem happening on a specific disc only?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you follow the steps provided below which will help us in resolving the problem with your Blu-ray app:

Step 1: Power cycle your Xbox console.

You can reset, perform a full power cycle, or physically disconnect your Xbox One console to reboot it completely and fix many common issues. This process does not erase any of your games or data.

1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds. Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
3. Plug the console power cable back in.
4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

Step 2: Clear the storage cache on the console.

1. Press the menu key on the controller.
2. Go to Settings, and then select Disc & Blu-Ray.
3. In the Blu-Ray section select Persistent Storage.
4. Select Clear persistent storage.
Let us know how it goes after performing the aforementioned solutions. We'd be glad to further assist you.

Gaming TV Brands: What do you use? Is Dynex any good?
... as any player can perform well digitally.
I disagree with this statement. My ~$200 Samsung Blu-ray player playing CDs through a Toslink cable doesn't sound remotely as good as some high-end Blu-ray players (Denon DBP-2012UDCI,
Arcam BDP100, etc.) I've tested through HDMI/Toslink. Hopefully one day I'll have the funds for such a player.

I think that when it comes to <$500 CD playback it's preferable to use a dedicated CD player over a Blu-ray/DVD universal player. I have an older Yamaha 5-disc changer that clearly sounds much better than my Blu-ray player(s) and it was probably in the $250
range (it's similar to the current Yamaha CDC-697).

3D not working for Halo CE

I'm having the same issue.

Samsung 46-inch 3D HDTV 7000 series.

Connecting Xbox via HDMI to a Yamaha receiver.

Same connection for my cable provider and my 3d blu-ray player. Everything works in 3D except Halo. :(

Picture & sound not showing when HDMI plugged into Yamaha Reciever

I have the Yamaha RX-V671 and it works perfectly fine. I'd be on the phone to Yamaha to get official tech support and an official reason why it's not working how you want it to.
