Xbox Beta App

Hey everyone,

Giving a heads up in case anyone runs into this issue when installing the Beta app. Understand a lot of people are having various issues with this app, and when I looked this up I couldn't find anyone who shared this issue; so decided to share it and my
solution. I've tried to install this app a few days ago to play Gears 5 (among others). But upon startup, I received an error code:





Initially, looked over my version of Windows to see if that was the culprit to the Javascript issue. Updated to the correct version of Windows, updated all available drivers, and checked for any other outdated software. After this, uninstalled and reinstalled..again
getting this message. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, no luck. Eventually decided to follow the file path and see if I could find anything in the folder; which ultimately worked. All in all, had to change the ownership of WindowsApps in
order to access this; WindowsApps initially doesn't give you access, regardless of your admin rights. Then look within the folder to find the .exe file, make it a shortcut on my desktop, from which it runs smoothly.

So if you have this problem, first change ownership of WindowsApps:

• Open your File Explorer
• Go to your C drive(or the corresponding drive on your PC)
• Select View and check both boxes: Hidden items/File name extensions (this will allow you to see the WindowsApps)
• Select Program Files
• Right click WindowsApps, then select Properties
• Select the Security tab, then Advanced
• You'll see the name of the File name, and under that the Owner. Next to Owner, select the Change link
• A User or Group box will open. At the bottom, it offers you to enter object name to select. Here is where you will change the ownership name. Change it to the administrator user account of the PC; ex: PC-NAME\Admin_User_acct.
• Select Check Names; which will automatically fill in the name. When done select OK.
• This takes you back to the previous screen, where the Owner has been changed to your Admin account. Underneath this is a checkbox that you must select; it reads "Replace owner on sub containers and objects"
• Finally click OK. This will save all of the changes. Takes a few minutes to complete

After all of that, go back into the WindowsApps folder:

• Go to Microsoft.GamingApp_1909.1001.12.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
• Select app. At the very bottom of this folder is the Xbox.exe file.

Ran the file and it worked immediately. Made a shortcut for the desktop so I wouldn't have to hate my life finding it again.

Sorry for the lengthy post. Wanted to get this out there not only for anyone else who is dealing with this, but also Microsoft and the Devs so this can be looked into.
