    Xbox (Beta) app not working on clean install of Windows 10 (20H1)


    After a clean install of Windows 10 20H1 RC (build 19041.207) and a subsequent automatic update of the Xbox app (version 2004.2000.42.0), the XboxAppServices.exe fails to start after every boot and the Xbox App will not launch. The error message is a missing
    MSVCP140.dll and missing VCRUNTIME140.dll.

    It would appear that the dependency on the Visual C++ 2015 (or 2017) redistributable is not correctly defined for this app in the Microsoft Store and it is therefore not installed at the same time.

    Manually downloading and installing this depedency fixes the problem - but that shall not be the solution for the everyday user.

    apologies, sleepy eyes, it should technically install the redistributables when installing the app but like you say this was not happening. disregard my post (long night)

    This is what I wrote in my original post - but the purpose of reporting the issue was to get it fixed for the everyday user, which it has been.

    Problem seems to have been resolved in Xbox Beta 2004.2000.57.0 and/or Gaming Services 2.40.29002.0.

    This is broken on my laptop on:

    Windows 10 20H1

    Windows 10 20H2

    Windows 11 Stable

    Windows 11 Insider Preview (fast ring, 1 week ago)

    All on fresh clean installs.

    Same test run on a desktop machine on the same network works fine. Ethernet on Laptop does not fix it.

    It's got to be something gaming laptop specific, possibly GPU selection. Forcing the Xbox app to use either integrated or discretre graphics didn't work either though.

    Switching the GPU mode to "discrete graphics" on my Legion 5 didn't fix this either.
