Xbox Beta App - Can't change drive onto which install games

That is: I can change the drive - but only if I change the drive, onto which each and every Windows program will be installed from that point forward, which is definitely not what I'm looking for. Any ideas as to why Xbox won't let me change the installation
drive independently, i.e. without messing with general Windows 10 settings?

    :)

Xbox Beta App - Can't change drive onto which install games

Man, but the point is I don't want to install each and every program on D:. And as far as friends tell me, they can freely chose the installation drive before installing any game - that's what I'm looking for.

large downloads give the option to choose which drive, smaller ones don't, i just set my D: drive as main area to download apps and games then move the ones i dont want on the D: drive to C:

Installing Games/Apps onto D Drive through Xbox app/Windows Store

I am trying to install games and apps onto my D drive instead of C drive through the Xbox app and Windows store on Game pass.

I have set the default drive to install apps to through Windows settings

I have set the default drive through the Xbox app settings

I get a notification when going to install the game, asking which drive to install to, and instruct it to install to the D drive

Every time though, it ignores this and installs to me C drive.

If I try to move the app through settings, the "Moving" notification and progress bar appears for a split second before disappearing, with no error information, but not having moved the file.

There are some apps that are installed on my D drive, and the pattern seems to be apps that require Admin approval are the ones not install onto my D drive.

Could someone try and resolve the issue, as it's incredibly frustrating for a service that is no longer in beta.

    Hi Ficohaker,

Thanks for your post. I understand you are experiencing issues with trying to install games on a separate hard drive. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the installation folder for games downloaded through the Xbox/Microsoft Store app. The only option
would be to install the beta application onto your SSD, and install games from there.

    Thank you.

How to change install directory for xbox (beta) app gamepass on pc

You don't need to do that. On the top right of the app, you can see your profile picture. left click on it, then left click settings. In there, is drive selection, which is a simple drop down where you can select which drive to install too. Hope
    this helps.
This is exactly how I had to get around it.

The Xbox Game Pass Beta app was installing Metro Exodus in the wrong drive (my boot HDD), while I had tried to change the setting to my second drive (game SSD), but it gave me the message "windows is not configured to install new apps into this directory",
and gave me the popup to the "settings->storage->default install locations" thing, I changed it to the "game SSD", then realized it was downloading to the HDD.

But I also realized it had created 4 folders inside the SSD:

    1) "DeliveryOptimization"

    2) "WindowsApps" (which is unbrowseable unless you change folder settings)

    3) "ModifiableWindowsApps" (under "program files")

    4) "[insert-your-PC-admin-name]"

Metro: Exodus isn't installed yet, but the only folder which doesn't say "empty folder" is the "DeliveryOptimization"..

It has a 2.51MB file listed inside.

    Weird stuff man.

But after those folders were created, it was no big deal to select the default install in system settings for my HDD,

Then select the SSD inside the Xbox Beta app.

Soo.. when first installing a game, Click your username in the top corner, select install location, try to change it to your game drive, when it gives you an error click the "change settings" link it gives you highlighted in orange, change the first "install
new apps" option to your game drive, then make sure Xbox Beta app will now allow you to set your game drive as the install location and save, then change the setting back in your windows settings to your normal install location.

    Then download your game!
