Xbox Audio only when HDR

Hi All,

My Xbox Series X has developed an issue that is only playing audio when HDR is engaged. When at the Xbox dashboard or playing a non hdr game, audio is muted. When a game caused HDR to turn on ( screen flashes black, ) the audio returns . If I got the Xbox button and bring up the Home Screen, audio plays. If I exit the game in any way, audio is muted.

I’ve updated the firm ware on controllers, unplugged the Xbox, and tried to turn off game mode on TV.

Hello Rogg721, you've tried some procedure on the console like a cache cleanup or a reset on the console keeping games and Apps, in case you haven't tried to follow the procedure below.

Press the Xbox button to open the panel.

Select system > system > console > system

Select Reset console.

Restore and maintain my games and apps.

Rest assured, you won't miss games or saves

Note - You need to know the email and passwords of your accounts when performing this reset.

The Xbox One S as well as my LG UH8500 4k tv both had updates yesterday 8/22/16. since the updates I have not noticed trouble with the audio anymore. It seems the updates resolved the issue. I still have the HDR turning back on when exiting HDR video though
but that is not as big a deal as the audio. You may want to check settings on your xbox and update your system and check your televisions as this has resolved the audio cutting out for me.

Having the same issue with my Scorpio and my Vizio P65-C1. No issue with audio on my launch Xbox one, but since I have introduced the Scorpio into my HT and set it to 4k I've been getting audio drops, and video drops two or three
times. Most of the time it's audio and in a twenty-minute show, can happen every few minutes, definitely more than 30-45. Happens with Plex, cable tv, Netflix. Thankfully I haven't noticed it playing Shadow of war, but the majority of the time the Xbox is
used watching tv and other apps more than gaming and it's annoying. I'm not going to say I'm glad I'm not the only one, but at least we can see it is happening across a wide range of tv's and Xbox's which makes it sound like it's a firmware or handshake issue
with MS and the tv manufacturers.

I'll try setting it to 1080 and see, but to other comments in the thread, that defeats the entire purpose of buying the console and trying to leverage the capabilities and pass through. Frustrating.

I was wrong, does happen while gaming but appears to be an issue when set to HDR. Turning off HDR did fix the audio issue . There were some other known HDR issues with color and black levels that are supposed to be being fixed by
MS. Just checked and I have an update available so updating now to see if it is still an issue.

After the update, HDR colors look better, however, audio issue is still present when set to HDR.

And my XBX has no issues with my Grundig TV, I guess, because that isn't HDR capable. And when using my video capture card at my iMac, I just need to disable HDR and the audio issue is gone.

So, the main source of the problem seems to be HDR related.

you could try this,

Turn HDR off on your Xbox...only turn it on when you are going to watch HDR content on Netflix. Netflix puts your TV into HDR mode as soon as you launch the app so your TV thinks it's HDR content even
when it's not.
